Just to share, I recently went Johor Bahru with YouTrip card to cover 90% of my expenses cashless.
Some merchants like Lavender bakery do not accept this card (declined 4-times) I asked the staff help me retry.
So do prepare more cash for such instances

I had a similar experience. Always good to have another card on standby. I used my ICBC credit card at Lavender, got rejected 3 times. The staff helped me to tap and it went through. Apparently, the chip on the card must be at the correct area of the reader machine. On my second visit to another Lavender outlet, I anyhow tap no issue.

Haven't tried YT at lavender. Will try YT when I go again next month. Yes, just top up with SGD and tap and they will auto convert. I recently used YT to top up TnG e-wallet.

My plan is use YT for small spendings like food, supermarket. Big spendings like hotel and petrol I will put on ICBC Global MC.

I don't like storing a lot of money in e-wallets or debit cards like YT, you won't know when they decide to close shop overnight and don't know if the money can be withdrawn. Top up only when you need to spend.

It is not a 'live' transfer from the "normal" credit card when you perform a transaction with the YouTrip. You have to have performed the top-up from your "normal" credit card first, so that your YouTrip e-wallet has the amount, before you use the YouTrip for payment. At the point you pay, the S$ amount is deducted from the e-wallet, so you will see the balance. Viewing the statement, you are able to work out the exchange rate.

If I want to exchange sing dollar for ringgit. Do I look at the sell or buy rates? Lower/higher better?
