Can anyone tell if they face that Whatsapp does not refresh their contact list for newly sign up for whatsapp (that also happened to be in your contact?). I installed whatsapp before my colleague, when he become a new user, his name in my contact list does not reflect showing he is a new whatsapp user. I have to uninstall and reinstall the application to detect him as a whatsapp user.

Try to change the format of your colleague phone number to use +65-number.

By default it is +65, I also email the developer, but no reply so far. Don't know how the application scanning works.

Please google "push notification" to understand more about push. You seem to have totally misunderstand the meaning of Push.

I will not go into details since I believe it's better to read on professional articles, but to keep it simple, no, WhatsApp does not run in the background neither do other push enabled apps.

I used to encounter the same issue... the developer said it could be that I had too many contacts and it is hard for the app to detect who is on their server!!! I had 500 plus contacts then. Go figure.

I see. May be I expect immediate update. I actually try uninstall and reinstall again. Immediately the new comer are updated, not 24 hr later in your case.

same thing occured to me.

i installed whatsapp and never looked back. think its one of the best apps ever.

but i encountered a lot of msgs lost in transit. like some msg will pop up in preview in my main screen but when i go into the chat, it goes missing and never comes back.

If I was overseas, and I used whatsapp to msg a friend in singapore? Does that incurred overseas mobile bandwidth charges? I wondered.. It stated on the app's description as doesnt though...

Yes. Data charges apply.

To be safe, turn data roaming off. Only send messages through WhatsApp when you have a WiFi connection.

Take note: Data roaming is much more expensive than sending a sms when overseas.
