I believe i have posted this info before but for the LAST time, i'm posting it again for those who are interested in getting a China set and would like to flash it with an international ROM with Google services. This is assuming u have got the 2Ghz, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM model. If yours is the lower spec 1.6Ghz model, look for TOOJ_WW ROM file instead.


IMPORTANT: Perform a factory reset before flashing with an international ROM version. Documented steps available here (for ZF6 but it works for ZF5 as well): Asus Zenfone 6 double wipe tutorial ~ Asus Zenfone Blog News, Tips, Tutorial, Download and ROM In addition, make sure the battery is sufficiently charged (preferably not below 20%) before proceeding with the flash update.



1. Download the latest International firmware for TOOF_WW model. Firmware updates here: Phone - ASUS ZenFone 5 - ASUS


2. Take note the date of existing firmware in the phone (Settings->About->Software Information). Eg: 20140430 for V0430 firmware.


3. Extract the ???-user.zip file from the downloaded ??? _user.zip file. (??? represents the firmware revision number/date)


4. Rename the ???-user.zip file to UL-ASUS_T00F-CN-yyyy.mm.dd.65432-user.zip where yyyy.mm.dd is any date newer than the existing firmware. '65432' is just an arbitrary number, u can use any 5-digit number as well.


5. Connect phone to PC. Copy the renamed UL-ASUS_TOOF-CN-yyyy.mm.dd.65432-user.zip file to the root directory of the phone's Internal Storage.


6. Disconnect phone from PC.


7. There's an exclamation mark notification on the notification panel. Pull down and click to update. During the update, u will see a progress bar. The progress bar is NOT linear, it will appear to be stuck at the 20% to 30% mark. Please be patient and DO NOT INTERRUPT the process. Once its completed, the phone will reboot by itself and u will see the home screen.


8. Firmware update complete.


9. Once u have successfully flashed the phone with an International ROM version, all future ROM updates will be easy. Simply download the appropriate WW ROM file for your model and place it at the root directory of your INTERNAL STORAGE. The phone will automatically detect a new ROM update available and prompt u on the notification bar. Click on the notification to start the update process.

ASUS should give us an upgrade to 2GHz,16gb, 2G Ram instead of SP or the voucher.

thanks for this. but when i tried to find the firm for zenfone 5 (2Ghz, 2Gb ram and 16Gb) - i can't seem to find it.

i went to this website you provided, can only see the manual.

i tried this website too (from the software SOP manual), keep trying different model but can't seem to find zenfone 5 firmware too.

can you guide me where exactly to do or go to find the latest firmware?

i think he meant that the first wave of purchasers will complain if we were to get a better specs model compared to wat the first wave of customers got..

Just enable Trace Input in ASUS Keyboard setting. It cannot work with Fling Input.

How to do screen capture?

U are almost there but u are not looking hard enough.

Somewhere in the middle of the page, u will see

Driver & Tools, FAQ, Warranty & Manual and Document.

Click on Driver & Tools, u will see a prompt appearing below:

OS: Please select OS

Select Android and u will be presented with a list.

Click on (-) Firmware and u will be presented with a list of available firmwares. Select the appropriate one and download.

I got what he meant also. Just poking him.

Seriously its a logistics problem it seems cos not all postponed to 28/6-2/7 period since some are getting 21/22 Jun.

....but still not shiok cos we pre-order and then they give such insincere 'compensation'.

If only we can jointly say: 'unfulfilled orders will be voided if not delivered by xxxxxx'.

Maybe Digital Life should cover this.
