fyi, there's also a zenfone 4 ($169), if you are looking for a simple phone ZenFone 4 Series

can also consider redmi 1s ($169) or redmi note ($199)
redmi 1s available from Redmi 1S - mi.com
redmi note have to get from handphone shops at a slight premium, or wait for next time-limited xiaomi sale

note:
redmi note has backlight for home, menu, back keys
both redmi 1s & zenfone series phones don't have
this may a consideration for less tech savvy users

Xiaomi is super laggy when compared to Zenfone.

like that... then it doesn't really make a difference whether intel or snapdragon right?? ;)

regards,
wacky

Since snapdragon is a better/faster processor, then I guess there's less chance of any lag when using phone functions as compared to the intel version

Thanks for the recommendations.. i'd get the Zenfone 5 for my dad instead of the 2 redmi models cos I think it looks better and I heard it has a better build

Not true, personally I feel the Intel version is better. Other peers whom have tested both versions have leaned towards the Intel version as well.

Ohh i didnt know that.. thanks for letting me know. Hmmm I wonder why ASUS would ditch the intel processor for snapdragon for the ZF 5...

Was using the intel zenfone 5 previously, got the LTE version lately ( both 2gb ram version). Intel's one performance was more snappier / responsive compared to the snapdragon counterpart but... the battery life on the snapdragon is like a lot better than the intel's.

any consensus on which chip is better ?
1.6 GHz dual core Intel vs Snapdragon 1.2 GHz quad core ?
I am not very keen on LTE, so might get the one with better "future-proof" CPU.
where can get the Intel 2580 (2GHz) ZF5, with 2 GB RAM ?
Asus website, only sells the 1.6GHz version, it seems.

Was choosing between ZenFone 5 and Redmi 1S...finally decided on ZenFone and bought one. But wow, I couldn't open the back cover at all. Manual says to pry open from the small groove, but I just couldn't get it open. Anyone got tips on how to do this?
