hmm what do u mean by the 'route'? i downloaded the entire tokyo prefecture and i'm trying it as i type right now - it is able to search for the stations, but that's all it does. no routing info, timetable (i understand there's hyperdia for that), or what bus to take to go to particular attractions.

also, it doesn't have some of the attractions - e.g. sensoji temple is not inside.. :o

lastly, the app is quite laggy as compared to Gmaps (tiles really load one by one on my Note 1). is it the same for u guys?

I'm able to find sensoji temple.
you have to key in Sensōji

Yoiu may like to try out the iOS Citymaps2Go Lite ver.
Free but can only Download 1 map.

or GOOGLE PLAY version

What the app does not give is real time updates for Bus Train arrival.
If that is the case, it's not the best "OFFLINE" app anymore...
using Googles Map (Online Data) this be the best thing.

I mean Google map will give you the latest available bus and train timing and route to take. I have not try other mapping, for example you might have a planned routing, but when you reach the bus station, you might missed the last bus and the next is like 45 mins wait. Use Google at location and will get latest available and alternative. I find it esp useful in Kyoto, when you get free pass And travel by bus. Also dun need to pre planned like siao.

For Osaka and Tokyo,JR line and subway is too easily available. Just that for some subway stations, the map at ticketing is all in Japanese katakana and hiragana. U enter le, go down platform then will find English. Realli funny, you have to ask around then enter.:s22:

The idea is to try to avoid too much Data usage if you are using the any data plans.
be is rent from japan, pre-paid data plans.
using Google maps use up the data usage.
if you want to use the Google Maps, then this Citymaps2Go Offline is no use to you. :D

hey guys, just an update : i tried maps with me and it's a lot more responsive+faster than citymaps2go. highly recommended :)

by the way, is there a "gothere.sg" website/app equivalent in tokyo/japan? just wondering, cos a local site might be able to provide better directions than Gmaps..
