Hi there!

I apologise if my questions are repeated, having only read the first few pages. Please let me know if they are. Thanks. :o

1) When the contractors do the PVC Cable Trunking, do they drill holes to screw the trunking in place, or do they hammer nails, or do they just use double-sided tape?

2) For the Termination Box, do they drill a hole behind to screw to secure the box?

3) The service provider's ONT is just like a modem+router rite?

Thanks.

1) They used the double sided tape already attached to the trunking and nails in my case.
2) If I recall correctly yes.
3) ONT is strictly modem. Only ViewQwest has a combo device atm.

Hey thanks!

3) After reading through the booklet, it seems that after the ONT there's another RG (residential gateway). Must we use the designated RG (which seems to be a router to me, and the ONT the modem)? So cannot use our own router+wireless?

Hi,

need some advice for OpenNet installation of fiber next month.
I have a cat5e cable installed from my main door to the living room, done by my contractor previously and hidden in the false ceiling.

Can I have the TP installed at my main door and with the ONT and connect to the RG through the cat5e cable to the living room area?

TIA.

For Info:

Just experienced another screw-up from OpenNet. OpenNet contractor called to confirm an appointment that I was NEVER inform of and in less than 24 hours away.

Does OpenNet seriously expects us, the consumers to be able to make arrangement so last minute?

Oh, the OpenNet contractor even "THREATENED" that if I were to reject the appointment, my RSP will not be able to activate the service as originally scheduled (despite me explaining that it's not possible to make arrangements so last minute and ask if it's possible to reschedule just 1 more day later).

How dare the contractor "threatens" when it is obviously a shortfall on OpenNet's part to notify the customer with sufficient notice. In fact, the "official" informed schedule done 4 weeks ago is another later date.

Most of the ISPs will not allow use of your own routers, unless in special circumstances(i.e Starhub configured a direct access from my PC to ONT for troubleshooting). The RG is basically their own router, which MAC address has been registered in the ISP's side to allow access to the network.

You can use your own router, but it can only be in bridge mode to extend the home network

I think if u subscribe to isp like m1(w/o VOIP), viewquest or MyRepublic, u will be allow to use yr own router.

I see, thanks. :)

Btw another queston, from the TP to ONT, it's the fibre optic cable rite? Then from the ONT to RG, it's the normal Ethernet CAT cable?

Got my TP's 2nd Port activated today. Basically Opennet added one more fibre line outside my home and connected it to my home's TP 2nd port.

Anyway, the signal strength reading of the 2nd port is better then the first's.

1310nm : 0.44dB
1490nm : 0.36dB
1550nm : 0.30dB

1st port signal stength below

1310nm : 0.63dB
1490nm : 0.59dB
1550nm : 0.50dB

Weird, when my house is fibred up, the contractor "wire" both port of the TP.:s12:

I guess you are one of the few who only got 1 port activated..:o
