I bought my first foldable last year and was considering v5 and n5.
N5 was using 7 core cpu and pricier than v5! I didn't have heat issues with v5 and didn't see reports from others on heat.
This year, n6 doing the same trick again.![]()
Main issue is the processor -n5 got overheating issue?
| Chip | Stability in GPU stress test | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Snapdragon 8 Elite (2024) | ~46–62% stability | Performance drops moderately |
| Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (2025) | ~25–48% stability | Larger performance drop due to heat |
One yr good, one yr bad. Haha.Main issue is the processor -
Short answer: Yes — early tests suggest the 2025 Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 tends to run hotter and throttle more than the 2024 Snapdragon 8 Elite, especially during sustained heavy workloads like gaming or stress tests. However, the real-world impact depends heavily on the phone’s cooling system.
Below is a clearer comparison.
1. Raw performance vs heat
But that extra power also means more heat generation.
- The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (2025) is significantly more powerful (new Oryon CPU architecture and stronger GPU).
- In benchmarks it can deliver ~30% higher graphics performance than some previous chips. (Beebom Gadgets)
2. Thermal behavior (stress tests)
Tests show stronger throttling on the Gen 5 chip:
Chip Stability in GPU stress test What it means Snapdragon 8 Elite (2024) ~46–62% stability Performance drops moderately Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (2025) ~25–48% stability Larger performance drop due to heat This indicates more aggressive throttling than the previous generation.
- In one stress test, performance dropped from 6,867 to 1,715 points (≈25% stability) because of thermal throttling. (Beebom Gadgets)
- Some devices with the chip reached ~56 °C surface temperature during heavy graphics workloads. (Android Headlines)
3. Real-world usage
The overheating issue is not the same on every phone:
So the chip itself is powerful, but requires stronger cooling than typical phones provide.
- Gaming phones with fans or liquid cooling (e.g., RedMagic-style designs) can maintain performance better. (Android Authority)
- Standard flagship phones with only a vapor chamber may throttle heavily after several minutes of gaming. (PhoneArena)
Overall conclusion
- Snapdragon 8 Elite (2024):
- Slightly cooler
- More stable sustained performance
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (2025):
- Much higher peak performance
- Runs hotter and throttles more under long gaming or benchmarks
- Needs better cooling systems to fully utilize its power
For gaming (like the game you play, Diablo Immortal):
- Short sessions → Gen 5 will be faster.
- Long sessions (30–60 min) → performance may drop unless the phone has strong cooling.
Personally if I wanna consider getting any 2026 phones, I will try to get something that have minimal processor overheating issues.
for Oppo, i been buying from Singtel online without contract. N3 was 1.8 when MSRP was 2.3 iirc, then N5 i bought at 1.9 when MSRP was 2.5IF any 1 got to go to the event the -$150... if can use in shopee.... is no brainer liao...
but I believe only can use in oppo store/shop
July then will have bavivo like no news
Yup can feel the performance difference with full core 8e.. coming from vivo fold 5 honor v5 and now Samsung f7 lol..fold X5 imo is overpriced at 2499 MSRP with its outdated CPU 8G3 in july 2025... u not hurry can just wait
10g actually got difference one.. my Vivo fold 5 was 10g heavier than my fold 7 and I can immediately feel the weight difference.. I use case -less tho lol...I just compared its size against zf7... almosssst the same just 0.3mm diff 10g heavier than zf7
I think that's the thinnest folds can get.
I dont think zf8 will get as thin... some more than pump up their batt this time 5000mAh I think...
so interms of screen size, battery capacity n price.... Oppo wins!
for my use i cannot, except when benching and seeing the numbersYup can feel the performance difference with full core 8e.. coming from vivo fold 5 honor v5 and now Samsung f7 lol..
No la i mean vivo fold 5 de 8 gen 3 vs 8 elite.. i played around with my fren de n5 cant tell much performance diff also... probably more obvious in heavy use..for my use i cannot, except when benching and seeing the numbers
i rmb there was a user in N5 forum that said he would know the difference having 1 lesser lower-clocked core coz he edits videos in his phone, though i would argue that its gonna be not too much difference in total, but he argued that 1 sec difference machiam life and death situation liddat...The 1 lesser core not noticeable at all, even when playing games. I dont know under what situation then it will affect, but it hasnt affected me at all for the past 1 year with the N5. I occasionally play some games and there is no lag or stutter.
i think it is possible, last year's official event was on 20 Feb thurs and the phone was released the next day, and i gotten my phone from singtel on 24 feb monhope oppo n6 launch in march which i thimk no possible
Launching in a week's time Liao ma.. their full time staff already going for product training..
I alr checked with oppo.. lol..google it says 14-17 march possible
