Just curious how many iphone 15/16 users here set the phone to a specific charging limit eg 80%, 90% and what’s the perceived benefit over leaving it as optimised battery charging?

I do the latter as my phone ultimately still gets charged to 100% just that charging is supposedly slower after 80% except “slow” is still quite fast on my 16 PM which Is fine i guess, not complaining. 😅

But i notice optimised battery charging is a bit different on Watch 10 as it cuts off at 80%. So the so called optimised charging on Watch is more like manually setting the cut off limit to 80% like what one might do on iphone.

Kinda strange actually since optimised battery charging on iphone slows it down after 80% not cuts off but optimised battery charging on Watch cuts off at 80%.

I guess the question is, has anyone noticed whether using optimised charging or setting 80 or 90% limit actually prolong battery health?

optimised charging on the iphone works the same as what you experienced on your apple watch. you will see a notification on your iphone saying "optimised battery charging. scheduled to charging by X:00am" when its working.

this "slower charging beyond 80%" that you are saying is not optimised charging, its just normal trickle charging that will occur regardless if your optimised charging option is turned on or off.

the reason why you are not seeing the actual optimised charging happening on your iphone could be due to a few reasons.

- your charging habits for your iphone at home is not as regular and predictable as how your apple watch is.
- you did not turn on location services
- you did not turn on significant locations option
- you did not turn on system customisation option under location services

you can read more and understand how optimised charging works here

I set my iPhone 16 pro max and IPad Pro 13” to 80% charging Limit. That is because once I am in office, I will leave them to charge till lunch and going home time.
With that really help me reduce the charge aging of the battery. Mine IP15 Pro max which I got it on Jan2024, giving to my wife battery health level is still on 99%.

But then it really depend on individual user. My friend she got her IP15 Pro max the same period as me & becoz she is quite a heavy user as she working on marketing. She will need to reply to customer 24/7. Her‘s drop to 97%
Both of us is 80% charging limit for our 15 Pro Max.

You probably want to compare the charge cycles. The more charge cycles, the faster the battery degradation (all other things being equal)

Most importantly is suitable for own usage and will not cause any problem just to have slightly better battery life. I set to 80% and charge when I reached office in the morning. I will charge to 80% before I leave office in the evening. The last 20% is taking too long to charge too.

Same charge to 80% twice a day . One after lunch and one before sleep
