Their disasters could be huge .
You sure have also not heard of this :

In 2011 a tsunami engulfed Japan’s north-east coast. More than 18,000 people were killed.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ve-the-unimaginable-tragedy-of-japans-tsunami

And subsequent Fukushima nuclear accident.

i lost a relative to the boxing day tsunami in 2004... that one even bigger disaster... affected so many countries... yet those countries still crawling with tourists...

accidents and natural disasters can happen anywhere... singapore no difference... u see nowadays heavy downpour got flood liao and little bit of wind got trees fell... cannot imagine 10-20 yrs down the road... when weather patterns get worst...

u still think safe here? then what? immigrate to where?

bottomline is if scared this scared that... u cannot live the life u want... cannot go places u want to go...

come i scared u further... theres a 70% chance of major earthquake hitting Hokkaido in the next 30yrs... hopefully the news can make tourists avoid that place... thought of going there this dec... maybe like this the hotel and flights cheaper... and less crowded... kekeke

Nankai Earthquake is also overdue

http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/AJ201805280057.html

Seismologists have said the probability of an enormous earthquake hitting the Nankai Trough is 70 percent to 80 percent within 30 years. The Nankai Trough is a 700-kilometer-long sea-bottom depression that runs about 100 km off the southern coast from Shizuoka Prefecture to the Shikoku region.

http://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/AJ201709270052.html

New alert guidelines concerning a long-expected and much-feared Nankai Trough earthquake that could claim 320,000 lives will be activated in November.

You said :they are one of the best prepared countries for a major earthquake... they had been preparing for decades... had drills regularly...

So I showed you th huge fatality in Kobe / Tohoku earthquake . :o

Singapore is blessed .
Indonesia is not Singapore btw .

Been to Japan 10x recent years & solo Mt Fuji hike.
My family & I were at Phuket 1 week before the tsunami.
JiuzhaiGao had a earthquake 1 season before my visit.

Be aware there's always risks traveling to Japan. Take precautions by registering with MFA and learning about what to do in event of earthquakes. Most 'newer' buildings are according to the codes which can cope up to 7.0. Not certain when earthquake happens one will be in hotel.

great... so whats ur concern again? so will you visit all these places again?

am i wrong that japan is one of the best prepared countries? did i claimed during natural calamity japan will have no casualties? i just compared if given a choice of being in the situation of an earthquake... would you rather to be in LA or japan or china?

Singapore is blessed... agree... yes... so far... but dun count on it that it will be safe forever...

btw my relative was killed in Thailand during the tsumani... not indonesia... just want to highlight that those countries that u never once thought will be hit... got hit... closer to us is Penang which oso got casualty...

my point is... just go enjoy your holidays... nobody can predict natural disaster... like the chinese says... if the hell god want you dead at 3am... u cannot survive until 4am...

now the prediction is 70% in the next 30yrs... i am not too concern yet and will not affect my travel plans... but if the prediction is 90% within the next 1-2yrs... maybe then will avoid...

I was in Kyoto when the earthquake struck Osaka.
Felt the quake for about 1 minute and it was unnerving.
First experience with earthquake.
Then 2 days later there were minor aftershocks.
I didn't dare to bathe at night when I was there.

Did the Japan Weather predict such a flood / storm ?

I am not talking about earthquakes which we know the ‘experts’ can talk only after they happened.

Was thinking heading to Osaka from Tokyo This December. But now?

If you are worried about earthquake, then don't bother going to Japan cos earthquakes are common and hard to predict.

But if you are in the city area esp in Tokyo, they are prepared for it and the buildings are able to withstand relatively powerful earthquakes.

As for the rain and storm, I don't think you have to worry as December period is not the rainy season (rainy season is usually in June).

The news reported that >2 million Japanese refused to evacuate in this flood earlier.
( TCS Ch U 11 pm news )

So those who look up / believe Japanese residents are obedient / high public spirit etc etc may have their imagination shuttered .
