I have confirm my flight, going in mid Oct for 7 days.

Will spend 4 days in Kyoto
3 days in OSAKA (pending to do day trip to Kobe & Nara)

Day 1, arrive in Kansai Airport, will take a train to Kyoto
Any recommendation for train and hotel?

Arrive Kyoto:
- Day 1
Shijo Street
Teramachi
Shin Kyogoku Shopping Arcades
Kinkakuji
Ryoaniji Temple

- Day 2
Arashiyama
- Tenryuji Temple, Bamboo Grove, Daikakuji Temple, Monkey Park

- Day 3

Ginkakuji
Philosopher's Path
Nanzenji Temple
Higashiyama District
Kiyomizudera
Toji Temple south of Kyoto Station
Gion

- Day 4
Fushimi Inari Shrine
Heian Shrine (Check out Kyoto Handicraft Center for souvenirs)
Nijo Castle
Nishiki Market

Any idea where to squeeze in
-Arashiyama (Western)
-Kiyomizudera (Eastern)

Comment in Red
1) Day 2 can go Arashiyama
2) Day 4 u can go Nikishi Market, Nijo Castle, Fushimi Inari
3) Day 1 depending on what time you arrive at Kyoto, u can try going Kinkakuji and Ryoanji
4) Day 3 added Gion, Ginkakuji, Nanzenji. They are all on the way.

According to locals, Fushimi Inari is a must go.

And during this period, if you like to eat Sanma fish, eat there. It should be in season. We can get it here in Singapore for like 15-20 bucks per fish, there, 200-500 yen cooked.

What time will you need to go to Osaka?

Fushimi Inari you can go early like 6-7am, spend around 2hours
Heian Shrine 2 hours
Go for Lunch at Nishiki Market 2 hours
Nijo castle 2-3 hours

Then you can depart for Osaka in the evening?

Fushimi Inari is one of the most interesting attraction in Kyoto (Top 3 in my list with Kiyomizudera and Kinkakuji) :vijayadmin:

Yeah. Kyoto is generally more expensive than Osaka in terms of accommodation.

Sure, you can go Fushimi Inari during Day 2.

Maybe Arashiyama you can just do a half day trip although there are many places in that area for a full day trip

alternatively, you can just check in osaka later =:p

JR Pass definitely No. Since it is quite expensive and the only way it is worthwhile is using Shinkansen. Like Osaka->Tokyo roundtrip or Osaka->Hiroshima round trip.

Kansai rail pass also hard to justify. Osaka->Kyoto local train only 540 yen:o
Unless u take the Haruka from KIX to Kyoto then worthwhile to buy 1 day pass :o

Just get a ICOCA card and take local trains like Hankyu around Kansai region.

Dear all, for a 7 day trip to Osaka, i see from the forum that most advised a 2 day stay at Kyoto at least. Is it better to head to Kyoto at the beginning or the end of the trip? What are the most scenic places in Kyoto that should not be missed?

Will two days be enough to visit all these places?
