many bars, nearby central festival shopping mall ...
if u staying at hilton then you are just beside the mall

however, nearby the shopping mall, there are many 3* hotels
price is around 40+ onwards per nite for two ...

jus back from pattaya so expand on dede's utapao airport transfer info:

actually the shuttle from utapao to pattaya is 250b per pax, not 1000b.
the main difference is this : if u book a private car (800b from Nam), it seats 4-5 and it takes you direct to your hotel (abt 1.5hr dep on traffic)
if you book the shuttle at the airport counter, you wait for a full minivan/bus load b4 it moves off and if you are really tat 'lucky' you may be the last pax to disembark at your hotel 2-3hrs later...
so the choice is obvious if you have 4-5 in your grp but it is not so clear cut if u only have 2-3 pax.

3 hours quite long actually ...
i think if you go as family ... normally people would take a cab ...
even for couples, most might mind sharing with others, they would prefer their own transport, since is 1.5 hrs , which is quite long ...
if there are many others inside the shuttle, talk loudly etc, would be quite miserable for the 1.5 hrs ...

if two pax is 250 * 2 = 500b
the diff between private transport is 800b - 500b = 300b
for 12sgd more, i believe most couple would top up ... save time, more privacy

my 1000b shuttle is derived based on non-shared transport service, not shared shuttle service.

Airport customs is rather chaotic.
Whole plane load of 2-300 pax cram to 3 lanes...wtf!
If poss, spend a bit to upgrade to front plane seats so u get down plane earlier.
Can join thai passport queue. If no thai citizens, they will clear foreign passport- jus wait a while. This hack may not work for u so own risk k...

airport shuttle - see my post b4.

Heart of pattaya city is basically 2 one-way main roads
Beach rd and pattayasaisong rd.
Almost every respectable establishment worth its salt lies along these 2roads vicinity.
Sewage smell abound...
saw quite a few ladyboy streets along the connecting lanes btw these 2 roads.

We din do sea sports or island hopping cos we wanted to explore the city area for our first trip.
these can be purchased from the street event agents.

Alcazar show is nice. Abt 60min only for abt 600b vip n 500b normal.
If vip ask for front few rows else no diff from normal seats liao- start from A so try B-E.
Bargain n buy from street agent.
Din do Tiffany show though...maybe nex time round.

Baht bus is basically a souped up pickup plying btw the 2 main road n u jus wave them to stop n board.
When reaching yr destination, u press the buzzer n then alight n pay the driver.
We paid 20b per pax for the trip from our hotel to central festival - abt 8min trip.
It looks like the local thai pay only 10b but i cant cfm as i no speak thai.

Motorbike rental we saw cheapest abt 200b.
Din try it...

U can try out the motorbike rider shuttle.
we were quoted 20b for a short trip.

We went to Bangkok on 3rd day using Bell Travel.
Do not take the ridiculous Bell Travel for shuttles btw Bangkok & pattaya!!!
It is one of the lowest rates ard but their MO is ridiculous - they will send a minivan to pick u from yr hotel then drive u to the bus station. Then a bus will send u to a bangkok bus station. From there u transfer to yet another minivan to yr hotel.
Sure the trip btw bangkok n pattaya is only 2hrs but u waste tremendous amt of time waiting for other pax n transferring.
We spent near 4 hrs total for tat bangkok-pattaya journey...

one way from bangkok is about 2 hours drive ...

You can consider staying near central festival pattaya area
there are many 3* hotels around 40+sgd per nite for two
they are just few min walk from the mall
if you wanna splurge abit more, can stay hilton hotel, on top of the mall ...

Enough. 1 day temple sight seeing, outside pattaya city sightseeing, 1 day island tour, 1 day city tour like shopping and malls look see look see. If you want to spend some time on Island, go to koh samet from Pattaya. If not, all 6 days in bkk also can.

From bangkok to pattaya u got a few choices.

1) mini bus (hell ride I don't recommend)
2) coach (super comfy and fast without extra stop)
3) taxi (fast and easy but most expensive)

No one takes train to Pattaya...don't think there is a railway (i think hor).

For hotel, avoid soi 13 and up. Avoid soi 6. Can try 2nd road or soi buakhao area. Or if you are feeling rich, go for those atas one. If you are an average couple with budget but want to stay near the beach front, try soi 1 to 11.

Recommended the above for normal couple...

That is baht bus, don't think they have this from bkk to pattaya. Can't imagine if that lorry half way broke down then how

The mini bus is a van where u can buy ticket at the bus station (or victory monument formerly). Took once before and swear never to take it again to go pattaya.

Haha never travelled from bangkok to pattaya
only flew to pattaya via airasia

nowadays their flight is one week 3times ... last last year when they first introduced, they have daily flight if i rmb correctly ...

I was observing their fare keep going downwards ...
even for end nov, school holiday period, the fare is still below 75sgd two way nett to pattaya, then i guess business is not good, tats why they have reduced the flight frequency already ...

3 days is just nice for you to strike pattaya off your to-visit list and never need to go back again until they build something new. The past trend shows that they only build new hotel, shopping malls and bars.

If you still have much unexplored places in bkk, I would suggest doing 2 destinations only for a week's vacation. Chiang Mai and Phuket is too far and one might need a whole week there to enjoy it.

I will choose coach as my first choice any time. Just buy ticket and wait for the time to board, easy and straightforward. When you reached pattaya, there will be a baht bus nearby to bring you to your hotel area. Take note this will not cost 20B, it will be more.
