My SSDs are both m.2s and attached to the mobo. No sata cables involved.

i guess u have no choice but to send the mobo for servicing.

i just remb i had asrock z77 mobo failed on me before which i had replaced it with gigabyte one.

Before you return the motherboard for testing/RMA, try rolling back your BIOS to an older version, and then reflash it back to the new version. The crashes could be due to corrupted BIOS. This happened to me when I flashed my Asrock X470 board to the latest P3.90, which I subsequently downgraded to P3.60, which corrupted the BIOS. Strangely when running stress test, it works perfectly fine and stable. But when gaming, it keeps crashing out or BSOD. So I bit the bullet and flashed it back to P3.90 after trying to do a clean install of Nvidia driver that did not help. After flashing the BIOS back to P3.90, it seems stable for now.

This is a good thing to test and I would go the extra mile and if you have a spare partition or hard disk re-install windows and try the game/app that you experience the most crashes with.

It’s easy to just point this is wrong or that but ultimately there needs to be a fair bit of troubleshooting done to get to the bottom of the issue. IF you listen to some it could be RAM,.. go RMA that then it still happens,.. next RMA motherboard,... maybe then its fixed? WOW the legwork involved in that is no joke!

I don't really think it's a Windows issue TBH. I downclocked my RAM down to 2666MHz and went back to an earlier BIOS, 3.20 for my B450 Steel Legend. Everything seems to be stable so far. The newer BIOS does seem to be a bit more unstable for my RAM.

It could be either the motherboard or the RAM, and maybe both. Makes troubleshooting nearly impossible in this case. Not being able to run at XMP means something is not right.

I feel it’s worth a short to reflash the BIOS. The BSOD may be due to a corrupted BIOS. And honestly, besides the difference in error you are getting, they symptoms looks quite similar to what I experienced.

Flashed the 3.20 BIOS again and enabled XMP. Seems stable for the time being, will monitor further. Thanks.

Quick update, the PC started crashing again.

I backed up my files and reinstalled Windows, but any time I transfer large amounts of data, the PC will BSOD with WHEA uncorrectable error. I cannot find any dump files inside the system, changed all the settings but the BSOD will restart at 0%.

I don't think it's a RAM issue, as stated earlier using 1 stick of RAM from another PC still caused crashes. Also don't think it's an SSD problem since transferring files or installing the Steam library to either will crash. Probability of both SSDs dying quite low right...

Probably gonna RMA the motherboard soon, if it doesn't work then RMA CPU. Followed by RAM then SSD.

WOW sounds like you're having a real headache there. Let us know how the motherboard RMA goes.

Specs on the right >>>

So recently my computer starts to BSOD like nobody's business.

1. Play Overwatch for about one hour, assets suddenly stop loading, then black screen with cursor still visible before BSOD

2. Play GTA V for about one hour, exactly the same thing happen.

3. Updated to latest BIOS, running at XMP settings, still crash.

4. Ran MemTest64, no errors found while running but computer freeze again.

5. Computer runs perfectly fine browsing the web for the whole day.

BSOD error codes: ks.sys died, critical process died, System service exception, kernel data inpage error

I'm pretty sure it's the Crucial RAM problem, used for less than half a year but any suggestions are welcome. RMA to US ***** troublesome now.

Edit: Seems like AsRock motherboard issue, will update. So out of the 3 AsRock boards I bought, all 3 have been RMAed. Excellent.

Multiple random BSOD errors more likely to be cpu rather than motherboard.

Of course test with different ram first, but you already did that. So yea, pretty sure its cpu.

Addon: and its easier to remove cpu than motherboard first.

In this case, if your motherboard comes with local warranty with Tech Dynamic, bring the board, CPU and RAM together and let them test on the spot. Problem is that most of us don't keep spare parts for troubleshooting, so better to let the distro do it themselves to confirm if the issue is due to the motherboard or not.

What version of windows did you reinstalled. There seems to be some issues with windows 10 may update 2004 with some hardware configs. Might want to try older versions of win10 or best with Linux to totally rule out OS issues and confirm it's either cpu or motherboard.

He should have installed 1909 as 2004 has an opt-in element now. I. have reinstalled and NOT installed 2004 as I ran into multiple issues including BSOD!

:)

Anyway, most distro will prefer you bring these items down for troubleshooting. In addition, we paid for this service anyway when paying more for local distro warranty.

At least the BSOD error codes are now consistent, WHEA uncorrectable. And rather easily reproducible by transferring data between 2 SSDs.

Errors started with 1909, reinstalled with 2003, doesn't matter cos BSOD on either version.

Noted. I went down to Techdynamic too many times already, every single time it's because of the AsRock motherboard. Can probably search my post history.

So yeah don't buy the same brand within a few months, later they all spoil at the same time.

If distro willing to help then ok. Some will only strictly test the items that belong to them.

Yep which is actually very stupid as they could have a 2nd visit from the customer if something is overlooked.

So far when I RMA things like motherboard, the distros' preference is to bring the CPU and ram down to test as well. At least that's my experience with Ban Leong, and CDL. You can always give the distro a call to see if they can test these parts (at least with the CPU) for you because you suspect there is something wrong with the board.

Just want to do a quick update.

Went down to Tech Dynamic and managed to convince them to exchange the motherboard for me. And yes it really did take some convincing that it is not due to incompatible storage(both SSDs are on the QVL) or RAM(swapped with other RAM still crash).

Swapped the board and everything seems to be fine. Will monitor and update if something unexpected comes up.

Probably a failed BIOS update.
