Hi all,

I'm currently running a NZXT H440 and find that I'm having some cooling issues with the following components without air con:

1. 4770k idles at around 50 deg and load temps are about 85+

2. GPU also pretty hot : Sapphire R9 290 TriX at around 85 deg when gaming

I currently open the front panel of my case when gaming to let more air in. Was thinking of changing the front case fans to better ones, prolly SP120 or NF-F12 and adding a H100i for my 4770k. Also, would modding the side panel to add a 120/140mm intake help? Please advise bros :o

Hi, there are generally 2 types of fans. Static pressure type fans and airflow type fans.

sp120 refers to static pressure 120mm which is more suited for radiators due to the higher static pressure pushing the air thru the radiator.

Go for af120 - which refers to airflow 120. For case fans the important feature is that of airflow - fans that move more air, rather than fans that are better at pushing air harder.

4770k is a hot chip. Is it overclocked? If oced high 50-85 is within range.

Your Gpu does seem to run hot, but if I recall r9 290s are designed to run up to 90 deg c

Thanks! But there's a removable dust filter on the front, so the SP fan will draw more air thru? I don't oc my 4770k but would water cooling better help compensate for the lack of aircon?

Fan filters do not affect case fans which are designed to move as much air as possible. If I'm not wrong static fans are conversely designed to push air thru harder.

And ya your 4770k seems to be running hot. Either remove and reapply thermal paste or you can at the same time change a cooler to h100i. Note the stock fans with the h100i are very noisy operating at Rpms above 2k

Running a 4690k oc to 4.6Ghz. I recommend getting a corsair h105 to lower down your cpu temp. Mine is running less than 40 deg at idle.

Change the fans on the h105 (sounds like airplane taking off) to sp120 and you are good to go.

don't think has anything to do with yr chassis.

i suppose yr cpu cooler is stock, tats y high temp under load. AIO will def help. or if save money, a 212 evo will do. also try remounting the cpu cooler and reapply thermal paste.

As for GPU, do u oc? if not, it's actually rather high.

did u reduce yr gpu fan speed? set it to auto?

Actually I don't think it's the stock cooler issue. The chip is not oced and haswell is relatively cool under stock. But ts says his chip is 50 to 85deg. I'm thinking it's the thermal paste issue.
