PC Recommendation

Hi all,

My current desktop PC is dying and im looking to buy a new desktop. Not sure what is the recommended specs for my usage. any help/recommendation will be appreciated.

My usage:

Looking to build a home lab for spawning VMs and cyber tools to practice and try things.. (hence am looking at at least 16GB of RAM or higher)
other than that, its mostly just browsing/surfing and not much gaming..

was thinking the more cores/threads processors and higher RAM is better. GPU wise should not matter much.

was thinking abt ryzen since it seems more value for many with more cores compared to intel. dont need the higher clock speed on intel as well.

budget ~$1.6k - $1.8k? less if possible. not familiar with AMD/ryzen so not sure which combi is better.

Wle he needs more ram than a vega don't anyhow suggest leh.

TS save your money and get any decent gpu will do.

VM & cyber tools get at least 32gb of ram, ryzen 2600x or lower is great and gpu doesn’t matter - 580/590 is more than sufficient

GPU 580/590 is? AMD RX580/RX590? any recommended MOBO etc? saw pple recommending MSI tomahawk B450.. thinking to go with ryzen 2700 or 2700x cos of the higher core count compared to 2600. but havent check whats the price difference to see if worth.

Any b450 msi board will do to be honest. Their vrm is pretty solid. Just check to compare what features you need on the board.

As for gpu, just get the cheapest you can find as you won't be gaming and only need the gpu for display.

The casing was looking at the fractal design for a budget simple case then chanced upon the CM one which looks quite sleek as well. intending to get most online other than maybe mobo and CPU due to warranty issues.. or might make a trip down to SLS over the wkend.

for RAM if need 32GB should get 2 x 16GB or 4 x 8GB? whats the diff between 3000MHz/3200MHz etc?

sry if i sound noob. first time building DIY PC.

Casing, i contemplated between Tecware Nexus and Fractal Design Focus G also. In the end, I went ahead with Fractal Design Focus G because of the mesh front panel, better airflow. Side panel not tempered glass though, and no PSU shroud. Cable management was decent.

RAM can just get 2 x 8GB. better upgradability IMO. 3200MHz > 3000MHz, but doesnt mean it's always supported. If 3200MHz same price as 3000MHz, then just get the higher one lor.

Yeah saw your build and I think batniss. Pretty similar to what I'm looking to get. I'm leaning towards fractal too cos of the airflow. The tecware front panel can remove also I think. Can check if I get 2x8gb ram now and wanto increase to 32gb, can just get another set of 2x8gb? Cos saw some is quad channel in a set.
