Hey, just a curious question. What medical conditions do you have that caused your PES F one week into BMT? You don't have to share if you don't feel like sharing :D, I'm just genuinely curious
Bipolar Disorder + PTSD with treatment history dating back years before enlistment.

Then again, nowadays it seems quite a number of people are getting PES F'ed for Adjustment Disorder (which can literally be seen as the flu or common cold of mental illness) that manifested during NS with no significant prior history or indicators, and not a single day passes that you don't see someone posting in some forum claiming that they have it and want to downpes or discharge, so I guess the threshold to qualify for discharge from NS is crazy low these days... 🙄

Yeah from what I see, the more common PES F is for adjustment disorder.

I wonder if they asked for it or it was given to them haha

Yeah which is really odd. Adjustment Disorder by diagnostic manual definition is always temporary (acute), rarely if ever lasting beyond 3 to 6 months and hardly ever results in the same kind of lifelong issues, dangerous behaviour, and impairment as chronic mental illnesses like major depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia etc.

Have seen many with conditions/symptoms that are way more serious than Adjustment Disorder who end up stuck in higher PES. Wonder where's SAF's logic taken from.

Yeah I know, all SAF medical classifications are decided by the Medical Board - that's why I wonder where is their logic taken from.

Just to explain why I wonder, my professional background by training is directly related to mental health/mental illness. It's no secret that AjD is in fact a rather minor condition and always acute. There's no such thing as chronic or lifelong AjD.

I wouldn't be surprise because it is the military, the health requirements might be held to a higher standard

The usually high standards in SAF is why I find it odd that a seemingly increasing number of AjD cases are getting permanently downgraded or discharged nowadays (keep seeing related posts on a certain chao... Ahem... NS advice forum).

AjD is comparatively mild when measured against the usual array of chronic mental illnesses like major depression, and only lasts a few months at the most. And that is already overplaying its severity. Most of us would go through multiple instances of AjD in life without even realising it.

It's not something that would immediately be associated with a need for permanent PES E/F to trained assessors and would probably be more in line with a temp PES or disruption for recovery.

Missed out on the “er”.

Anyway it’s also about practical and political reality.

as much as scientifically what you said might be right…

it’s also about “better be safe and sorry” and maybe that’s what they decide is the better course of action.

Yeah agree. The points you mentioned are most likely their rationale behind downgrading or discharging the AjD cases.

In short SAF is covering their own backside from potential public kpkb 😂

yes it has been. But the person who asked may not be aware judging from his query. Get it?
yes. but for you to add "now" in front, it gives the impression that only now then can be ST. but the fact is long ago can already be.

that's independent of wether the person is aware or not.
