Hi guys i would be thankful if yall can share about your experiences in ns doesnt matter which vocation though i got called up for the ndu va. Cos i broke my nose during a rugby game and was wondering if there would be a lot of physical contact in ns then i would break it again lol. Now that my nose has healed a bit my doc advised me to go for reconstructive surgery as insurance still covers it, but the implant might get knocked out lmao

Oh yeah i kinda forgot. But will the "blowing your nose" part really destabilize the nose? I tot the vasalva is only for the dry dive?

i will advise you not to join NDU. its only for the elites and is very tough.

You can go for the VA but during the medical check up, can tell the MO about your nose problem. make it serious. then i am almost sure they won't select you liao.

please don't waste time to enter then fall out and out of course or what. Are you determined to grit your teeth to pass through all the tough trainings and hell week??
If not, don't even go in just for BMT/PTP. no point. might as well dont even enter NDU.

You are selected for VA and can't avoid it. lucky your nose is your saver!

cheers!

Yeah it may be tough but for eg i dont think everyone can run 9.15 for 2.4km before the training right? Right now only 3 guys in my school can get that timing and all are cross country

i don't think you want to enter NDU just to get 9.15 for 2.4km. physical fitness is NOT combat fitness. although yes NDU emphasize on achieving IPPT diver gold but you are a soldier. Combat fitness still wins!

I too went for the VA before i enlisted in 2007. Screwed up the fitness test and maybe the interview. Didn't go in. LUCKY ME. You had a super good reason to siam NDU regarding your nose problem. Make it serious, bring all your medical docs and take it all up to the MO. trust me. dont suffer for nth

Getting called up for VA doesn't mean you will definitely be recruited.

As for other vocations, it really varies. I don't recall anything that requires you to deliberately impact your nose, but then there's 1001 things that could accidentally hit it (one prominent thing that comes to mind is BCCT/ICCT). I've had my fair share of getting knocked by things left right center, while working in confined spaces.

If you really have concerns, bring it up with the MO, either at CMPB or after enlistment.

You are responsible to declare any medical conditions that you have. You may for whatever reason not wish to do so before your enlistment as you do not want to delay your enlistment, but you should declare it when you enlist. If anything happen to you and you don't declare, then is your fault.

Well, I don't understand why only NDU is for the elites. But that aside, assuming it is only for the elites, you are saying TS can't be among the elites? If you can't so be it, but doesn't mean others can't. Toughness can be overcome.

You never even the post before yours prior to posting...

There are ppl who can go in without knowing how to swim (at least I hear say) and come out swim like a fish. Everything can be trained.

If you are not the "elites" don't prevent others from being 1

TS seems to suggest VA is over and he already got enlistment notice to NDU, but I defer to him to reply on that...

Any major medical condition should declare. you need to do it during NS for them to pay for it.

I don't have the specifics, so maybe someone else more in the know can share with you.

Regardless, thing is, combat activities (CCT is just one example) come with risks. Not that it should stop you from taking a combat role (many others have made it despite past injuries), but you need to understand your condition and what you may be possibly getting into.

You are entitled to medical benefits as a NSF. However, if you seek any treatment, do check beforehand the coverage and subsidies (full, part, or none).

If you incur any injury while in service (including to/fro camp), you must file a service injury report if you require long-term treatment (after ORD, or for life).

For service injury report, you needs to inform your commander first hand when you have a service injury. For example, fall from height (rope station during SOC). Surely there will be commander station there & they will get medic to assist you immediately & sent you to see MO.

But if you fall from height (rope station during SOC) & there were no commander around which is the reason why you did not inform your commander, it will not be recognized for service injury report because you cannot support your claim.

Yes, you should inform commanders of any injury sustained during training, but that is pertaining to safety during training, not filing of service injury report.

As long as you are injured while performing your duty in service (including to/fro camp, as said), you can file a service injury report. There is a process in place to establish facts. There's no requirement stating that commanders must be present during the incident to support the claim (or else officer/specialist cadets will not be able to file any report, given the cadet governance system).

1) That is provided everything went fine.

2) Commander (& higher commander) will challenge the claim. You got no witness. Even if you have witness, it is not serious injury which is the reason why you can walk away fine without reporting sick at that point of time.

3) Higher Commander also will question your Commander why his man got serious injury but no one know about this accident until so many days/months have pass.

4) So many commanders in SAF are too lazy to even issue servicemen a form to draw their rank epaulettes & order them to use their emart Credit to buy it, what make you think commanders will fight for your right for point 2 & 3 that affect their performance (bonus, rank promotion & etc)?

Then what about injuries sustained before service? Like my nose lol. And i saw a lot of nsf with gauze taped over their nipples while running shirtless, most likely cos of abrasion ouch. Would saf pay preventative surgery like gynecoastia in this case to prevent bloody tits?

I have personally processed an application that did not involve any witness. And it was a minor injury that required treatment post-ORD. And it was approved. There was no such "challenge" by any "higher commanders".

The commanders don't have to "fight" for any right for any serviceman to file any report. The serviceman can personally file it with the S1.
