Piano Lessons

I am a piano teacher but I would say you can teach yourself to a certain standard. As long as you keep trying and practise. Give yourself goals, pieces you want to play etc. If you get stuck you can always have lessons once a month etc, just to keep you going!

Recently, i just gathered my courage and enroll myself in a music scool to learn adult piano. I was very motivated and sincere to learn.. but after a few lessons, i being to feel that the teacher is getting impatient of me! After i finish playing (with much difficulties and mistakes) she would just Shrug and said nothing. Feeling embarrassed, i wouldl say "let me try it again"

Like every 10 mins or so she will look at her watch to see if it's time to end. As soon as the 45 mins is up, she stood up (her bags already packed) and can't wait to send me out of the room.

I have abs no prior knowledge on music and i only started now so i seems really clumsy with the fingers. But that is the purpose of me learning isnt it! She gives me the feeling of not being professional and i feel so ashame and dishearted of myself.

Anyway, i have request for a change of teacher (and hopefully, things will be better) Sorry, i just want to rant !!!

You have done the right thing to change teacher

But my advice is try practice harder, so can play nicer.. (fewer mistakes =) no offence intended)
hopefully tt way ur teacher will take the lesson more seriously.

As I said in my earlier posts, IMO what's most important is that you practice regularly.
And it would be better if you get real acoustic piano touch.
For beginner i guess keyboard would suffice

you can rent a studio in Cristofori, ossia and several other music schools.
the first two provide so-so piano but at a very affordable fee. If it has not changed it was below $10 per hour. If you are a student there, you can enjoy even lower rent fee.
I rmb few yrs back i paid for abt $2 per hour.
But subject to availability, usu sat and sun don't have many studio available for rent.
Anyway, it depends on which centre you go to. Some have more studio, some got a lot of students..

Else if you go to CBD v often, you can rent the music studio at Esplanade library.
Fee is about $6 per hour. Here you got to book beforehand.
Piano not that good also (cristofori brand), but got digital piano. U can bring ur headphone (big jack one if i'm not wrong) if you donot want others to listen to your practice. (the studio is not totally soundproof.)

erm.. actually you can choose to buy those cheap china -made(or korean or indonesian made) second hand piano if you dont mind the sound quality and appearance.
prices can be as low as $400 (if u're lucky, go check mocca, ebay and forums)
and IMO this is a better option
you can save a lot in the long run, save trip time and hassle in booking.
and once u have enuf $$ to buy better one, you can dispose at little loss (price is always ard that level)

may i know what is the difference between keyboard and piano?

if you consider the physical appearance, it's quite obvious rite, wood vs plastic keyboard, most keyboard are smaller and lighter (less bulky) than piano, and a lot of keyboards doesnot have full range (61 keys or even less, vs 88 keys of piano)

then if you play on one, u'll notice touch and sound quality of keyboard can never match those of piano. Touch is superficial. Pedal also very vaque. Pedal and sound have only limited touch sensitivity

but with keyboard you can play around with rhythms and diff sounds

keyboard would be a good substitute if you often move house. (portability, for convenience sake)
even then, i would encourage u to buy an acoustic one if you wanna learn piano properly.

P70 is decent. But you really need a better sustain pedal than the one bundled to practice.

If you can afford the cost, space and hassle an acoustic piano would be better though. I've just started learning not too long ago and I practice on the P70 @ home and on an acoustic in the school and it just feels different. Maybe just excuses for my poor performance in the school
