Glad to know that you're still enjoying your Plextor instead haha, I actually think the difference of running it on sata 2 and sata3 is very minimal as it is like what others have mentioned, we are more towards the responsive time than the transfer speed itself.

Yeah indeed, my beef is with Sony, not Plextor (which is awesome!)

To be honest, having used Intel and Samsung's SSD as well, I feel there is but one bad point about this Plextor M5Pro drive. I am using the Xtreme version of this drive, but I think over time, it has gotten slower. My understanding from some reviews is that TRIM don't seem to kick in for this drive until the drive is really in a bad shape. Their application does not allow you to run the TRIM command. So for my case, the performance has dropped quite a fair bit from the time I started using it. Performance as in the boot up time. Not too sure about application response as my Ram Cache is doing a great job keeping it very responsive.

So Plextor don't have any utility to manually activate TRIM ?

Personally I also prefer to have some control over TRIM but unfortunately when I got my SSD last year, only Crucial was value for money.

If $ was not a issue, I would get either Intel or Samsung which allows users to activate TRIM manually.

I think you guys are referring to Garbage Collection?

TRIM should be immediate if you've got AHCI, Windows 7 and above I believe, and Intel Rapid Storage driver installed. It will work.
Perhaps the other guy is seeing performance drop because the drive is almost full? TRIM or GC can't help much there because there is little free space to assign back to the drive

Also a drive can be instantly TRIM-ed by using a software which tries to block out all free space on the drive and then immediately release it so that the O/S' TRIM mechanism will auto kick in to TRIM the free space.

In terms of Garbage Collection I believe the Marvell based Plextor has no problems there, based on reviews of course so real world performance may vary.

Also err.. the degradation of SSDs without TRIMming affects Write Speeds only. So boot up speed should not be affected. Boot up is more likely affected by applications stalling

I bought the 256 GB and installed it with Windows 8, I notice there is this download software "NTI SSD Solution Suite for Plextor" .
What is this for?

It's a cloning software for when you need to clone your old hard disk to the new SSD. You won't need it if you're doing a clean install.

I recently bought a 256GB Plextor M5 Pro as well and used it to clone my old 128GB SSD to the new one. Just have to install it in the hard disk you want to clone and follow the instructions. Took like 12 mins to finish the cloning for 100~GB.

crucial m500 does not allow you to trim manually?
