Please take note on the purchase of laptops for year 2 and 3 polytechnic students.

You will have to check with the school who would know better. Existing students are still students who can enjoy such perks. Subjected to them being able to afford of course.

Hmm, sometimes students decide not to buy a laptop when they are year 1, therefore they can get it the following and the next as Long as they are matriculated students still studying

Sorry, is this about the brochure of the dell xps 13/15 that I posted?

Nope, none at all on your part.
Brochures are alright as it is still in relation to the topic of recommendations

What I am referring to are individuals who are non students trying to purchase laptops from matriculated students. This thread is meant to be about discussion on laptops and not for individuals to make quick buck or get a good deal by purchasing and selling laptops.

Hope this clarifies.

Apparently SP can buy more than one laptop.

Seems like times have changed. Didnt know bow their software also allows up to 5 different laptop as well. Last time only 1 per laptop.

I'm enrolled in SP's DIT. Currently struggling to figure out what laptop to get since I really want a light laptop.

On the website, they stated that i should get a laptop with a 4GB GPU, however, I've clarified with the teachers that the 4GB is more for students that want to choose the Games Dev option in Year 2 and he also recommended minimum 1GB GPU for those that would want to go Solutions Dev option. Link to curriculum

However, I've researched and a lot of programmers don't require any dedicated gpu for their work. So can someone help me look at the link and tell me if any modules part of the solutions dev option and in first year require dedicated gpu? Thanks a lot ><

i wonder whats the software they are using? can find out? and beside that 4GB of VRAM is only good for heavy rendering, but still need a i7 HQ series and a god SSD as well.

den again with lightweight u can only get i7 U series which might or might not be tough for your workload.

GL553 or FX553? The price difference is a bit huge and the only difference is the complimentary RAM and the SSD thingy.

fx553! downside is the storage space. But you can store in the free hhd. Ram should be sufficient if you are not doing graphics rendering

IT show seems to offer a better price than poly fair... are the "free gifts" at poly fair necessary?

the one at IT show has 1TB hdd, but shorter warranty.

i would still buy IT Show.

most of the "free gifts" are useless, accept for perhaps the hdmb to vga adapter but I can buy that cheaply online.

i tell you what. the zenbook ux310 is a joke. they can afford to put in a usb type-c yet they still put in 2 pathetic usb 2.0. i rather they put 2 usb 3.0 and drop the usb 2.0

Since it's a joke, any other laptops with similar/same specs to recommend?
