i think different category ones will be abit different ba... i find the higher end ones are more piercing :x

Too much treble I suppose, even over 10 years ago when I was using EX70/71 also exhibits this problem.

i've not heard the ex70 but i reckon it could be the high-mids are a tad too high instead of the high freqs, makes drums sound bright and sometimes can be ear piercing. but probably some pple will regard that as more transparent/neutral/airy. my experience with sony so far is that their high freqs are actually ok. there are more phones with ear piercing highs around :D

It is indeed very bright and sometimes a bit too bright. But they're very bassy too so in fact they're something like all-in-ones, and freq range goes as low as 5Hz.

I finally commited suicide by going into speakers.

Finalized rig for 2012.
S520 will warm the desk for a yet to be decided pair of speakers in 2013.

Guan22, mind if I ask what amplifier you use to drive the S520 and how does it sound.

Wyred 4 Sound mini-INTegrated amp.

It is an 100 WPC integrated amp with built in 24/96 Sabre ESS DAC and an accompanying headphone out for my LCD-2.

The mINT sounds powerful and grand. It provides the bass that S520 is missing, but does not entirely solve the lack of bass issue.
Details from mINT is excellent but does not sound dry.
