Congratulations!

Last period? If more than 8 weeks, can probably arrange to see Doc. Otherwise, also abit too hasty as ultrascan may not show feotus. Take folic acid in the mean time.

Daddy of 3rd child. So I can understand your excitement.

Thanks!

1st day of last period: 26th Oct

I know nowadays it's totally different from my dad era, where most information available online, various support group, social media blog, even hand phone apps readily available.

Thanks again for your comment! Appreciated!

Depends on if u wan private hospital? public hospital? private service or subsidised service?

no need to go GP. If u wan private service n deliver in private hospital, make appointment with the OB of ur choice. Appointments are usually 2-4 weeks wait.

If u wan private service in public hospital, just ring up the clinic for appt also.

If u wan subsidised service, visit polyclinic for referral then can get subsidies.

Congratulations!!

Don't need waste time and money on gp for confirmation. Go straight to hospital for gynae check up to ensure bb is healthy. But 8 weeks check up, some gynae will use vaginal ultrasound, very painful though.

Buy pregnancy multivitamin and jiak first, the folic acid will lower your baby risk of developing spine defects.

Then research which gynae and/or hospital you want to deliver at. Your first appointment with that gynae should be at least 8wks after your wife's last period otherwise they can't see anything on the ultrasound also.

At that first appointment gynae will try to find your baby heartbeat on the ultrasound then print out for you to stick on your fridge. If got heartbeat then congrats you're a daddy. btw at this stage the ultrasound looks like a peanut.

Enjoy the journey btw. Moi first son was born 2 mths ago :D

Don't need buy vitamins etc yourself. After you visit gynae, they'll ask you buy anw (from their clinic if it's private).

Just go get folic acid from pharmacy and take it everyday. Wait for after 8weeks then see the gynae you want (if want private). Meanwhile don't let the wife to be too stress about anything including work. First trimester is the most critical. If see blood or spotting quickly go see gynae without delay.
Good luck!

congrats!!

get folic acid supplements and DHA . Folic acid supplementation is recommended in pre-pregnancy stage actually, I would take it the soonest . There are many brands out there, my OG likes to prescribe Obimin previously - contains other ingredients including iron but that may cause constipation in some ; cheaper if ownself get from pharmacy

Folic Acid Helps Prevent Some Birth Defects

if going private, call the private clinic and book an appointment!

Dear all, wife have missed period by 8 days and we have just tested the pregnancy kit and it shows positive. Not sure the accuracy of this ClearBlue kit though, but since we are into week 5/6 right now, should we directly look for a gynae now and make an appointment to confirm the pregnancy etc? Or should we go to GP clinic first to confirm and then gynae. Very nervous now as yes, first timer dad. Looking forward to any kind advices.

You can double check with another brand kit. No need go GP for blood test. First decide if you wanna go public route or private route. If go public route can start to go check. If private and your wife feels okay can wait awhile more.

Thank you for sharing and your comments. Is there a lot of savings as compared to going public or private? I guess public is you need to queue longer etc right? The key differences would be the delivery fees in public hospital as compared to private like TMC? Appreciate any kind comments and feedback. Thank you.

Thanks for your comments. Wife has started taking folic, one tablet bought from Guardian - 5mg. Is this sufficient? I read that need iron and calcium too, should we start now first or wait till 2 weeks later visit gynae.

Last but not least, any recommendation of gynae say in Thomson Medical Clinic? Thank you for all kind comments and valuable advices in advance.

Usually start with folic acid 5mg first daily

Then gynae will recommend multi vit for pregnancg plus organic milk calcium tablet n fish oil

All these supplement must buy Pregnancy certified one.

If u want give birth at TMC then u can find gynae at TMC

If not u can try others. Some private gynae can only allow u to select some hospital to give birth at like mt E novena, tmc or mt A

Thank you for the comments. How would the budget compare if visiting a public hospital but as private, to directly straight to privates like TMC.

I have googled quite a lot on this but still see many recommending privates like in TMC etc, though do see some to KKH.

Haha u need to see ur age n wife age. And ur family history.

If young age with good genes then go for private loh.
Because when give birth at private and touch wood got serious complications still need xfer to kkh. But u will be paying private rates and very costly.

Then also if all goes well, normally everyone will try for natural birth. If natural birth cannot then need go emergency csect which will be more costly

My first baby, my wife tried induce fail and end up emergency csect total bills for 4d 3n stay at TMC single bedder including baby fees is ard $16.5k after medisave cash payable is $10k
