Hello!

I'm trying to run memtest on my comp but am getting this error after clicking on the exe file (that's been saved to my USB thumbdrive):

Error decompressing data! Corrupted installer?

I've tried this on 2 diff thumbdrives but they give me the same error.

The memtest file downloaded is 'Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7)'.

Any idea why do I keep getting installation error?

Hope someone can help me out - thanks!!

Did you check the box to format the usb drive?

You should download the zip file to your PC hard disk. Then decompress it. Then run the exe file. Before that, place a usb drive for the program to select and install.

OMG IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Hopefully the memtest will run properly, too!

Hihi, I think my comp restarted during memtest cos when I came back 30mins later to check on the memtest, the screen is showing the Windows Metro start screen instead :(

I have a total of 4 sticks on ram in my CPU.

In the first place, what wrong with your desktop?
List down all parts too.

Hi, sorry here are the details:

My CPU:

1) Intel core i7-3770
2) Asrock H77 PRO4
3) Coolermaster Hyper T4 Cooler
4) G.Skill ram 8G
5) Powercolor AX7870 2GB
6) FSP Raider 550 Non Modular 550W PS Unit

There are 4 sticks of ram in there. 2 new ones and 2 old ones (g.skill is the new one).

To recap, this is what I've done so far:

1) Clean reinstall of win8.1 after getting a lot of BSODs
2) BSODs still appear but less frequent after reinstallation of Windows
3) In the last week, comp will freeze and a colorful screen with many horizontal lines will appear
4) Removed graphics card and let it run on onboard graphics card. Still getting the same issues.
5) Just tried to run memtest but I think the comp restarted by itself halfway through memtest cos when I came back into the room to check, I saw the Windows Metro screen instead of the memtest screen.

My system was built in March 2013.

Thanks!

Update: memtest shows 1 error. I was about to copy down the details but the letters on the screen started to go crazy like this:

And then after a few minutes the screen went blank and the system rebooted by itself.....

I've started another memtest so I hope it will last for at least 2 passes before it does the auto restart!

Btw will the memtest program generate a report after it's done?

if you have more than one stick of ram, suggest you take them out and use one at a time to test.

Latest memtest screenshot - ALOT of errors found lol:

Means ram very fail?

Will it generate a test report after the memtest is done?

By the way, it seems to be stuck at 'Test 8% ###' but the plus sign in the 'MEMTEST +' name is still flashing - has it basically stopped scanning already?

Not even 1 pass already 2071 errors, you think the ram module still able to run the system flawlessly?

Run memtest86 with one stick at a time to narrow down which is the bad ram module.

Yup! Now I'm running the memtest test on 1 stick.

May I know if there will be a memtest report generated? If yes, then which folder do I go to get it?

No need any report or screenshot, as long as there are red words at the lower portion of the test screen, the ram module is faulty.

1 pass is enough, don't need 2nd or 3rd to determine the health status of the ram module.
