I'll start off first

Installed Win8 2 days ago, it was working fine. Hardly any hiccups accept for drivers and re-installed them with no problems

I JUST had a power trip and when I switched PC back on, both Keyboard and Mouse does not work any longer.

-=-=-=-=-=-

I am still trying to figure out what went wrong. Searching for keyboard shortcuts is useless since Keyboard not working
Reinstall ? But how to ....

Hi,

May sound simplistic but can try pulling out and inserting back the mouse and keyboard cable or change to other USB socket (while Win 8 is running NOT when computer is off).

I have encountered this with the mouse during Win8 startup, just pull out and plug back and voila working....

my 2-cents hope it helps....

Although I set as administrator account, copying files or to c: needs to confirm before action is carried out. No such problem on Win 7.

Plug your keyboard and mouse to another comp to see if it works. Try another keyboard or mouse. Not sure if the power trip blew something.

any damn way to disable the metro UI?

Many solutions:

Haha I guess mine should be the worst. Installed win 8 on the first day and ended up dell does not have all the drivers update. Especially gpu drivers. Can't play all my games with stupid intel hd 4000 gpu. So I try to do a system restore using F8, but wtf F8 function is gone!!! The only way I got from dell technician is to take out the hd and format it using another comp. so I ended up with a new hd and had to install win 7 on it and format the old hd using it as secondary. lol

if you don't intend to help or know the answer, just say don't know or don't even bother replying.

i was being sarcastic about Metro UI. Don't get so touchy over it.

And after using it for 2 days, I think as a user, I don't see any difference between Win7 and Win8 other than Metro. Opening up programs eg. Firefox would show me a desktop (minus the start button). To shutdown I have to slide/swipe right, click 3 or 4 steps just to shutdown. On Startup there is a background, I have to click on it just to see a login screen.

All I see is Eye-Candy right now, I wanted to open the "hood" on monday but Win8 failed on me. Can't login and mouse don't work.

If you GOOGLE for it, you would Probably find the answer to removing Metro (but I didn't want to spoil the fun for you). Sorry if I somehow touch one of your nerves

Encountered 2 bugs; my login wallpaper change and missing mouse cursor when I do a start up. Restarting solve these issues.

Opening up programs, it doesn't show a desktop, it shows a start screen with all your apps and programs, if you so desire. Think of it as a very large start menu :s8:

To shutdown - why not change your power button action to shutdown/sleep/whatever you want - it really is just one button push.

Another handy hint - if you are in the desktop environment, hit Alt+F4, and you'll get the shutdown menu same as Win7.

And to look under the hood, while in the desktop environment hover in the left bottom corner and right click, its a power menu to all sorts of admin functions.

yes it shows a LARGE start menu with boxes. Click on a program Example : FireFox or IE and it will kick you back to the usual desktop screen.

Isn't that exactly what the start menu in Win7 does anyway?? The only difference in Win8 is that the menu covers the whole screen and the icons are bigger - but the action is essentially the same.

And regarding the login...yeah you have to click to get to the login screen, but at least with PIN set up you don't have to click the enter button after entering your PIN, so the number of clicks to log in is the same as Win7 :p
