Hi, I'm very new into buying a diamond. This is my first time buying one.
I always thought that carat is the most important thing but I see many people talking about the Cut. Which one is more important?

Actually, none of the so-called Cs are important. Diamonds are intrinsically worthless objects. The only thing that really matters, if you have to buy one, is whether you like how it looks when you see it with your naked eye... and whether you're comfortable with the exhorbitant price.

Can't see using that la... Need to see with the magnifying eye piece. Why don't you just ask them yourself? Anyway, I remember that they don't take in diamonds with feather on girdle. They have a very strict criteria in their diamonds.

Guys, I requested a video from JP to place the diamonds on a finger for better visualization.

I'm leaning towards the solasfera, but the cushion brellia is something new.
It's a surprise.. Her sister caught hint that she wanted something special and not a normal round, so I'm somewhat caught between a cushion brellia or a solasfera.

Guys how do I decide from here?

Have you seen both diamonds in person? If you have not, I strongly strongly urge you to look at both with your own eyes and not base your decision on a video off the internet.

After much research (which included going through this thread online), my initial preferred choice was the solasfera. But when I went down to take a look, I found that the sparkles that came off the cushion brellia were decidedly much bigger than that of the solasfera.

You have to decide between lesser but bigger-sized 'flashes of light' (brellia) or more but smaller-sized 'flashes of light'.

In the end, I went for the brellia because of its unique cut as well as strong brilliance. Found the solasfera too flashy for my taste.

Honestly, just go with whichever feels right to you. Your gf will love you all the same. :)

I've seen both diamonds at their shop already, but can't make up my mind.
I do get what you are saying about the different sparkle effect, but I got a feeling she would be happier to receive a brellia than a solasfera, as solasfera would still be in round shape.

Thanks for sharing.. I'd probably head down for another appointment with them to view the diamonds.

I'll get the Solasfera if it was me... Diamond is meant to bling.. so might as well go maximum bling :s13:

but thats just me :s22:

Cut is the most important. And cut can also determine the price of the diamond drastically. How the diamond sparkles and its "performance" is only based on cut. Color, Clarity, Carat does not affect a diamond's performance.

How you prioritise the 4Cs will also depend on what your requirements are. For instance, are you able to sacrifice colour and clarity for a bigger carat? To me and many others, cut is the first priority.

Thanks. Ya, I saw the different diamond Cuts and could see the difference. I ranked it in Cut - Carat - Clarity - Colour.

oh.. and I bought my diamond ring last weekend :)

Ermmm this might seem a bit OT but would like to seek some opinion on whether it make more sense to spend $1600 on a paved ring setting for a proposal ring. Or would it be better to get a simple solitaire ring setting and then top up a bit more to get a pair of diamond stud earrings.

Thanks for all opinions.

Does your girlfriend like with side diamonds? If she does, you don't have much of a choice :s13: I know mine likes side diamonds.. Whats your design?

Whats that?
It's the video that shows you the different stages your ring goes through. I'm still waiting for my design from Jann.. very excited to see what he comes out with..

for me.. i prefer a solitaire ring for proposal. which is classic, neat and simple + a pair of diamond stud earrings to pair it up will be good to go!
