a friend gotten a 0.3 carat from tiff and it was about 6k ~~

I still feel getting a bigger rock albeit being less 'branded' as more significant. If a lady with a .3 carat from T&Co. stands beside someone with a .6 or even a .7 carat from a private jeweler, I think the lady with the smaller rock may not feel very good. And as guys know, girls really like to compare such stuff in future. If you can afford a .6 from T&Co. then that's a different story.

So I assume 0.5- 0.6 from tiff would range about 9-10k ish ??

For that price, you might as well go for Tiffany/Cartier/Harry Winston that are more international re-known brands! But like what {Gorgeous} said, it does not necessarily mean its a better diamond.

To really see how good a diamond is, you need to see it with the Aset scope, Ideal scope and hearts and arrows scope.. which none of these high brands provide.. So you're pretty much just paying more for the brand than the diamond.

I made a mistake splurging on a Tiffany ring before.. Unfortunately, I didn't know about JP then... I upgraded my diamond with them at a lower price and for a better diamond. The difference in the quality is obvious. Oh, and Tiffany certifies their own diamonds.. so it's not even GIA certified..

Here is a good comparison by one of the Bro's here. It may be another brand and the POPULAR T&C but the result will be the same ;-)

This is nice to hear, now there's competition ;-). Can share more of your experience?

I bought from The engagement ring shop, David, previously there is some unhappiness between he & another buyer.. But overall my buying experience was a very gd 1 wo.. He was patient to source for me the prefect diamond which I wan.. JP is also a very gd jeweler which can learn a lot from.. Somehow The engagement ring shop was able to give mi a nice diamond at a better price..

random qns: for those chain stores like lee hwa, gold heart,etc... does the salesperson earn by commission?

what happens if one requested the ring to be delivered to another branch for payment?

pretty sure they do :s12:

they have a computer system i think that they will notify the other branch like how they do when they are looking for other stock in other outlets

Seeing all the reviews on the forum about JannPaul, I made the decision to head down and take a look for myself for the purchase of an engagement ring for my SO a few weeks ago. Without a particular budget in mind, I really just want to have a look at what is available.

After finding the shop, I thought I would just browse around to see what is available. I was greeted by a staff asking if I needed help and I said I would like to just browse around for an engagement ring. The staff then asked me to take a seat first, and went to speak to some other people. I thought it was strange that I had to sit and wait when all I wanted to do was just browse. After about a minute or so I was greeted by Jann. He introduced himself as a JannPaul staff and he will be assisting me in my enquiry.

Jann explained in detail starting from the 4C’s and what I should be avoiding, such as flat numbers and differences in clarity. He then went on about some HCA calculator that can measure the light return of a diamond as well as the importance of scopes. For example, he was showing me 3 different scopes and explained that we need both HCA and scopes as a filtration tool because each of those have their own limitations. Jann then took out a few diamonds for comparison during the “practical” part of the tutorial for me to consider.

Me being a first-time buyer for women’s jewelry, I am an absolute noob. I decided that I should ask what diamond shape and setting is the top 3 most popular, so I can get a rough idea. Jann then asked me a few personal questions, such as my SO’s likes and dislikes and ended up recommending me the Brellia without sidestones. However, I was still not too sure because I just wanted to compare so I ended the session without any confirmation to my purchase.

I must say I feel quite lucky to have been able to walk-in and have someone to assist and explain all this to me. I did not expect the session to be a good 1.5 hrs either! Although a lot has been shared on this forum, I did not expect that I will literally be educated in a session. Anyhow, since I am now less noobie, I have looked around to compare and see whether what I have learned is true. I am surprised with what is out there and the quality that is provided, even in branded international jewelry shops, is less than I had hoped for in terms of price and quality (x times more, smaller diamond and less sparkly). In terms of service, I also felt like some salespeople from majority of the other jewelry shops just couldn’t give me the time of day, maybe because I was considering of purchasing a diamond under 1ct or because I said I was just browsing with no intention to buy yet. So by the time I received a follow-up email from Jann, I made an appointment to iron out the details of my purchase for a Cushion Brellia engagement ring.

From browsing to purchasing, I am very satisfied with the service I have received and even more happy with the quality of diamond I have paid. To think that a local startup can provide such levels of quality and service assures me that I am in good hands in this purchase as well as possible future purchases. I definitely recommend JannPaul to those that appreciate quality and do not want to be treated like a “carrothead”.

I will post pictures of my ring when its out… I hope you find this review helpful!

Personally, my SO is already comparing size of diamond with her friends and colleagues. Even if its from tiffany n co, and the diamond size is small, i believe most SOs will feel "jealous". Its human nature.

Thank god my SO told me, no need tif and co.. Phew.

At least from my perspective, size does matter. Unless ur SO wears the tif ring with a big big tag to tell everyone its atas, otherwise, how many will even know?

Yea lor, if the diamond gets outshone by other less branded tags, i think the lady will feel even more upset and some even to the extent of embarrassment. My gf told me ya don't need T&Co., blue box is nothing. She wants a red box I jitao :s22::s22:

My opinion:
quality of the diamond itself > brand from which you bought the diamond.

anyway, i only consider 1.01 ct and above diamonds for my SO with perfect cut (i.e. zero light leakage). Even leak a bit is not acceptable to me.

Right. Then how come the agents are advertising rampantly in the homeseekers forum?:s13:

have been in love & co before.
Generally, felt the diamonds were overpriced for the quality. Did not buy from them.

For wedding bands itself (not talking about diamonds), think love & co is pretty popular?
