No it was not shown to us. And we were clueless abt diamonds. We bought the ring from sookee. The only thing they said was excellent cut is rare, and with so many excellent scores the diamond is a very good buy at its price. So we believed. And that excellent cut means that the diamond would reflect light well

Based on what you said, this diamond is actually not good?

3EX diamonds aren't that rare. But this diamond's pavilion angle at 35.5 means it's too high and also the girdle is 4% which is on the high side. Meaning the extra weight that you are paying for is not because the diamond is bigger but rather, it's cut too deep.

Based on the HCA score, the 4 factors are only rated very good, not excellent.

ok my bad that i didnt research before buying. but at 2.4k, is it reasonable?

reasonable or not is your own perception. Some people think that 2.4k for a 0.41 D VS2 diamond is worth it, considering most people here probably paid $3k+ for a diamond of the same size, colour and clarity at JP. I don't know if your diamond is sparkly, but maybe you put side by side with a super ideal diamond from JP, and yours look duller while the JP's one is super sparkly, will you still think that your $2.4k diamond is worth it?

Since you already bought the diamond, then no point asking worth it or not. Cos most forumers here advocate JP's diamonds as they are of a certain standard and quality. They are not the cheapest, but they are also not the most expensive. You ask already, then people here tell u not worth it, you will feel dui also right? Next time before buying, do more research, go to a few shops to compare and ask more questions before buying. :)

Hi all. Will like some opinions on the Octagon and Brellia. I was shown 4 types of diamond cuts in JP.
Super ideal cut / Solasfera / Octagon / Brellia

I'm mainly deciding between the Octagon and Brellia.

From the front, I find the Brellia shape to be more cute and vintage looking. Makes the diamond look abit more... solid?

But at certain angles, can see the Octagon have more sparkles.. especially around the corner areas. Some parts is really like wow.. Didn't know diamonds can actually be this shiny..

Probably because of the 88 facets. I'm quite sold to the 88 facets and 8 hearts and arrows.. very auspicious diamond.. haha

They showed me the difference of a D and G color. To be honest, when I was there I could only see a slight difference. Somehow its abit more obvious in the photo. For me, I think F-G should be good enough. But if budget permits, I don't mind going for a higher color..

I know the Octagon stocks very little because 88 facets is harder to cut so in flow of stock is slower.. I like the Octagon but is not the exact spec I want.
Should I go with the Brellia or maintain Octagon? Jerome told me there is no new spec of Octagon as yet..I scared wait too long pass my dead line then I am dead myself

I like the Brellia too but my mind is fixated on the Octagon.. Hmmm. Any feedback which is better?

Cannot say which is better.. Everyone will have their own taste and opinion. I got the Brellia for its square shape and also because I know my gf liked those square shaped diamonds. There are also other people here who like the Octagon shape more.

You can also consider the ring design you want and which diamond will suit it better.

Good luck deciding! We've all been through that stage :s22:

She is right though, i won a free trip to japan due on cny, so i thought best time to propose. so i bought from a reputable pvt jeweler in a rush. i have the ring with me now, my brother's wife was from JP, but i didnt know. my ring now compared to his one from jp... i am literally looking at the both now while typing this. i feel like i rushed my purchase before researching

i would have rather paid abit more in jp and get something that looks this much better

but oh well... what happened already happen, i know she will still like it. tbh i heard from my colleague about jp and found this thread. can't blame a guy for ignorance

How was my reply sarcastic?! I was telling him not to compare as most probably people will say the performance of the diamond is not that good (refer to spleenful and LoveMyGreens comment above) In the end he will just feel miserable about it! Since he already got the diamond then propose and move on! Not like he can trade in or sell the diamond back to the shop!! As long as his fiancee love it, that's the most important.

If you have comprehension issues, just keep your mouth shut! And learn to spell correctly if you wanna comment. :s22:

Nvm, i've deleted my posts. Cannot stand people like her who thinks she's so great knowing how to spell and act like a know-it-all. I dont need her to tell me not to compare anyway. People ask questions in forum to clarify their doubts but this zha bor finds my question pointless. Hope she feels good knowing that she offended people. Must be a snot in real life.

Thanks to the others that offered your 2 cents. I'm off.

Chill guys.. we are all here for for love right? :)

This is my FIRST post in this forum. I have been following this thread for awhile and prefer to stay as a reader but I feel compelled to speak on behalf of the man/woman who asked about the reasonableness of his/her diamond price.

It is pretty obvious that he/she is a newbie in this arena and is very doubtful of his/her purchase. My point is - if we are unable to empathise with his/her situation, or unable to phrase things nicely, then please just keep quiet.

From an objective view, I don't think I will 1) feel more assured 2) feel that I have gained more knowledgeable about my diamond 3) or just a matter of fact clarified my doubts after reading one of the answers posted above.

There is no need to advocate that the people here mostly buy SI or JannPaul. Its only going to lead him/her to think that his/her diamond is not JannPaul, so its not good - which is not always true.

If we think that reasonable or not is an perception, then why do we even have this forum to help one another?

I don't get how my post is offending. The most important about a diamond is the sparkly effect.
I said the color of your diamond is good (D) but i have not seen your diamond and i don't know the performance (how sparkly it is). $2.4k is cheap for a 0.41 carat diamond, if that your definition of worth it. But if you paid $2.4k for a diamond that doesnt sparkle much, would it still be considered as worth it?

Others commented that your diamond does not have 3EX, and you have to take it the wrong way about my post. Im telling you not to compare so that you won't feel miserable paying for a poor performance diamond when you could have paid slightly more for a better one.

Most importantly, does it matter if people said the diamond is worth it, but your fiancee doesnt like it at all?

i think most importantly is not the price that you paid , its whether your other half will like it and appreciate the effort of your action that matters, to a certain extend, maybe some people like a bigger carat or a certain unique shape like hearts diamond.

All of you are right!! hahhaa. I guess its really obvious then.
The right one is mine, Jp's Super ideal cut. Its a 0.5ct f vs1. The bottom one is my wife's boss's Solasfera. The one of the left is an Ideal cut from a chain store..
Funny thing is the one of the left is of a very high specs! Its a D VVS1. But I guess the cut not so good so make the diamond appear overall darker. And her diamond ring actually cost more than ours.

best thing now is... My wife is asking to upgrade to Solasfera! hais.. :s13:

some prefer stronger bolder flashes of a diamond = super ideal
some prefer disco ball tiny flashes of a diamond = solasfera

from the video the super ideal has the nicest chunkiest classiest blink less-a-disco-ball imo vs the solasfera - i would go for the super ideal over and over again any other time :D
