Actually what is the most imp criteria to look at when buyin a rock? I want something that looks big n shiny..like a 1 carat might look smaller than a 0.9 carat if it has some better factors

The best is use the HCA calculator. Doesn't mean your 0.9ct looks bigger than a 1.0ct = better factors.

This could mean two things, either the 0.9ct is too shallow or the 1.0ct is too deep. Both are bad diamonds that will not reflect the bling bling you see.

The HCA calculator is just the first step in buying a diamond.. The best is still to use the other scopes. Like what zakkieez has posted before, a diamond can have a very good HCA score but still have light leakages and unsymmetrical hearts and arrows. To know what you're really buying, you should use the HCA calculator AND the other scopes.. :)

i highly agree on the good service too...
after buying from JP i went walking around too...once in awhile at orchard i see the GSS sales diamond..on the spot i can see the diamonds..like quite dark..no brilliance... nothing like what i saw from JP which were so shiny..
one day i was around the area and popped by to ask Jann.. about why are the diamonds so under promotion so dark..
he explained that those diamonds were most probably Very good cutting only..
i gotten their contact from here and feel that i ought to repay back some nice information that i think is on many's mind... they gotten me interested in diamonds... much more than my gf is..
the first question that comes to my mind was what is so different between the triple excellent diamonds that can score well in hca vs JP's super ideal
so i requested for an assessment on triple excellent gia or triple ideal 0 ags diamond that most stores sell.... this is the info JP compiled....

Cheem the retail shops never taught or told me any of that although I got pieces from them. Are private jewellers better? Hoping to get a gd quality diamond for my wife. In no hurry though.

any idealscope picture? I know it's on the extra certificate on the Solasfera already but just to be sure, otherwise I don't think you can even doubt a solasfera in terms of cut standards, but you have to like it's performance :s12:

Oops sorry the image did not load for me, i see it now. For the sake of education ,looking at the scopes what do you think? :D

hmm not an expert. so looks ok to me. your opinion?

looks good :s12:

Idealscope-> look for uneven white or unwanted patches
Hearts-> look for unevenness, in the hearts / meshed up hearts, coagulation, splitting, etc, this will give you an idea if the pavilion is cut symmetrically and it's facet alignment
Aset-> Unwanted green/ white or non symmetrical areas. Bezel greens and girdles are fine
Last scope, isn't really a scope, just a blank shot, unnecessary.

I'm not an expert at the solasfera, but they are extremely high precision cuts

I believe you meant HCA.
No you can't.

HCA score is meant for round cuts. I'm not sure they apply to other forms.

round one?

not sure the term...noob here..

how about a heart shape 0.51c G color VS2? reasonable price for this?

I mean it's cut grade :s12:
you have poor, fair, good, very good, excellent, ideal, super ideal

ideal and super ideal terms are quite commonly misused, certain vendors say 3 excellent means it's an ideal/ super ideal cut. Or that an ags cert qualifies it immediately as ideal..

ideal is commonly known to follow Towlkosky's ideal proportions, ratios, use a HCA calculator for this

Super ideal is when you tighten the proportions, analyze it's light return, symmetry and minor facets

Heart shapes have poor light performance in general by the way... but it's pretty much cheaper than a round.

All these factors affect price just cut alone. besides your other C's, fluorescence so on and so fourth, it's good if you have time to read up :s12:

I don't follow prices..... sorry:s12:

RazerDA, I think you can follow DawnMin's siggy and read up about diamonds or contact JP for a free crash course. It will help you a lot to understand more about diamonds.

Reasonable or not would require you to visit some of the shops to tell. And what you have stated is only 3 of the 4 Cs of diamond. The last C which is Cut can also cause the price to vary.

I visited JP to source for "stone" yesterday and was served by David. Very friendly guy. Went thru a short course (2hours) with him... I think the long duration was becos of my brain cannot absorb, but he still slowly explain to me and show me all the tools they use to appraise diamond...

Sad that after the whole course, I didn't use what I learn from the short course to see the diamond... hahaha... I think maybe becos I am too relient to read the GIA cert and GEMEX report... hahaha...

anyway I am happy that I got my desired diamond from David yesterday.

Solasfera 0.53 E VS1
