pls correct me if im wrong..

when propose , buy a proposal ring ( engagement ring )

after proposal, guy buy girl wedding band, girl buy guy wedding band..
and on the marriage day, exchange wedding band?

Sounds about right. Normally you'd buy the wedding band as a pair, not separately.

in my case, there are no wedding bands. Saved the money on wedding bands and put it all on the proposal ring so that she can have a bigger, better, 'bling-ier' diamond that all the rest of her friends.

Just a simple and rough calculation (should be more or less there, still lack of some factors to determine the final pricing): Round 0.55 E VS2 diamond will be in the range of US$4400/carat according to diamond rap report, therefore turn out to be US$2420 for 0.55 carat size. Convert to local currency + GST will be S$3366. Since bought at $3900, markup from diamond rap report will be around 15.86%. The markup is quite low. Good.

For info, VS1 means that there are inclusions (flaws) in the diamond. But they can only be seen at 10x magnification. VS2 will have "more number" of these flaws than VS1. But, all can only be seen at 10x. So, in short, naked eye cannot see the flaws whether it is VS1 or VS2.

Then, VVS2 and VVS1 means the inclusions can only be seen at 40x magnification.

For your diamond, i would say it looks fine. Light leakage of that level is normal for that kind of 57 facet standard cut round diamond.

$3.9k is a decent sum of money to spend on your future wife's proposal ring.

If your other half tells you no 1ct. diamond don't marry, you already already got your first C decided for you. :s13:

Budget is something you set for yourself. There is no point following what others do. Some can afford $20k and some is sufficient with just $3k.

0.5/1 carat for an engagement ring is fine. Or go with 2 carats. Might as well buy an appropriately sized means to an end :s13:

Just kidding.

Recently got my ring for $5,180. Below are the stats:

F colour, 0.63 carat, vvs2, 3 excellent, faint fluorescence
Hca score of 1.6 with all excellent except very good spread.
My setting is the classic tiff & co design (round brilliant with channel set) with 0.24 of side diamonds (7 on each side).

Any feedback on my ring? Did I overpaid? Thanks!

Sounds about right. From JP?

I believe it's 0.024?

hmmm thought that JP did not sell diamonds that have fluorescence.

Chill guys, not from JP and I didn't mention also. This thread is very JP btw, ;)

Anw, 0.24 are the total carat weights for the side diamonds, meaning each of the 14 of them about 0.017 in carat weight.

I am just glad I didn't overpay though. It's a private jeweller btw.

Tiff is selling a very similar spec one for $12.5k and I going to get mine for less than half price.

For me, fluorescence not impt cos gf dun club so UV not of a concern.

Design is something like this:

Cool down lol.
I didnt mean anything by it. I was just stating a fact.
Which was that JP doesnt sell diamonds with fluorescence.

Hmmmm cant comment about the price as i am unaware what kind of discount jewellers apply to a diamond if there is fluorescence.

Yeah, good to introduce more private jewelers other than JP here. Your private jeweler got any asset/ideal photos on your diamond? or you not particular on diamond but the ring design? btw your setting is 6 prongs?

do you have a certificate and the hearts and arrow scope... ideal and aset scope also?
bros here can help you assess the diamond..
if you can calculate hca score, a 1.5 score and below will be better..
