GIA got grade Symmetry, Cut, Polish. When these 3 are excellent it means triple excellent. Some could be excellent/good/poor or good/good/excellent. And note that the maximum grade GIA will give is excellent.

However, not all GIA triple excellent cuts have nice hearts and arrows.

Some grading certifications include Super Ideal Cut to indicate that the diamond has nice hearts and arrows. All decently cut diamonds does have some form of hearts and arrows but just take note GIA graded excellent in symmetry and cut are more likely to have nicer ones.

Ultimately, you have to see the scope to truly believe it.

ohh.. so it actually depend on individual
certification to name it like there's super ideal
cut etc. but GIA only has excellent as best rating. Oh.. Mine had Excellent for Symmetry and Cut. Very good for Polish :) Hope its not so bad
afterall.

The HCA calculator is just the first step in buying a diamond.. The best is still to use the other scopes. Like what zakkieez has posted before, a diamond can have a very good HCA score but still have light leakages and unsymmetrical hearts and arrows. To know what you're really buying, you should use the HCA calculator AND the other scopes.. :)

bro, can check with you,

so can i confirm that once we use the HCA, we need not care able the depth, angle and crown table?

I thought that the ratio of these three will determine if the smaller size stone will look bigger or not?

Certs are just like statistics. They are just numerals to make comparison easier.

Ultimately, it's the eye that is the best judge.

Agreed, at the end of the day, u should just see it with ur own eyes. HCA only serves as a filtering tool...but low HCA score doesn't necessarily mean the cut is good, cos the angles printed on ur cert are only averages (rmb ur diamond is 3D).

Yeah, too much technical details can be frustrating at times. Since beauty is something intangible... you need to see it personally to judge the real beauty of the diamond.
Lastly, don't trust something based on majority votes but based on what you believe.

Forget about those big jewellery retailers such as Lee Hwa. Most private jewelers can customize ring design and naturally they can un-mount and re-mount the diamond for you. Most importantly, start looking at their ring collections first to see you if you like it. Frankly, every designer got their own style and flair. You may want to approach JP or Ling Jewellery for your new band. Nevertheless, I will prefer Ling jewellery in my personal opinion.

its finally time to get a proposal ring. I guess we're leaning more towards a customised ring.. i've heard raves about JP pretty often and i understand they only do appointments.

before i book a session with them, any other recommendations for jewellers who provide similar services as JP at the same price point?
