How you all find the below specs:

HOw much do you all think it fetch?

Carat: 1.0
Clarity: SI-1
Color: H
Cut: Fair

You can search the prices on online diamond retailers to check if it is fair or not. Based on the specs, it seems that you are focussing on the carat size only. Is carat size the most important factor for you?

I am a happy customer of JannPaul and would like to take this opportunity to say a big Thank You to Jann and Arron who have helped in my quest of getting my proposal ring.

Basically like many of you, i wanted to propose to my girlfriend and have read through the proposal ring thread to make sure i got enough information and advise on hand.

As the ring would be worn by her, i would want to make sure that she get to choose the ring that she loves, thus i bring her along for the ring selection and for her to know more about the diamond she is going to get. (like why go for a better cut and color instead of a bigger size for the same price.)

We visited a few retailer outlets, like soo kee, lee hwa, larry and decided to drop by JP after reading about all the good feedbacks in this thread.

Although i brought her along to choose the ring, i want to reserve some elements of surprise ie, not letting her know which shop i am getting from, what size of diamond i would get for her and when is the collection date.
I sent an email to JP to arrange for an appointment and to state all my requirements. So for the first visit to all the shops, my intention is to get to know which ring setting she likes and what is her ring size.

For our first visit, Arron attended to us and he gave us a detailed lesson on what to look out for in a diamond, the different Cs, the hearts and arrows, the different cuts, the different scopes, etc.
I managed to get her ring size and we choose a setting she loves. I also find out during the visit that she seems to prefer Solasfera diamond for the sparkles over Super Ideal Cut.

With that, i went back another day to get her diamond. This time round, Arron went for leave and i requested for Jann to attend to me.

For my proposal, i would be inviting some of our close friends and family members along to witness this special event and to share our joy with them. I decided to come out with a proposal video to make sure i would not like to flick out and suddenly does not remember what to say. So i intend to make the video do all the talking whereas i would only go on my knees and pop the magic question at the end of the video.

Jann is a friendly and patient person and is very willing to facilitate to my request of making the video. He also very kindly agreed to be inside the video acting as the sale person attending to us.

So i pulled along a close friend to be my videographer and another to act as my girlfriend and re-enact the part of us going into House of Hung to select her ring.

You can refer to this link to see the video:
My Wedding Proposal on 2013/1/4 - YT & Fam - Part 1.mov - YouTube

Jann have also sent me the photos of her diamond and the video to track the making of the ring.
You can refer to this link if you are interested:
JannPaul Diamonds Ring Tracking (Fam Wai Chung) - YouTube

Overall, i am really pleased the service i have gotten from JannPaul. Hence i am now taking this effort to type out such a long account of my experience i have had with them.

I find them to be a friendly group of people who is very customer oriented and who is very willing to try to accomodate to our requests.

I would recommend all of you who is looking to get a proposal ring for your girlfriend to drop by JannPaul to take a look.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a Big Thank You to my good friend and to create some business opportunities for him.

We discuss together how i want the video to be and work together to come out with the video. He is very detailed and have a lot of good ideas on how to make the video more lively and interesting. He also gives a lot of good pointers on how to link all the different events together to make the whole video appears right.

I am generally a very strict and stern-faced person and he constantly remind me to smile and relax in the video.

I am also a bit hestitating about my poor pronunciation and tenses in my speech. He is very encouraging and cheer me on, reminding me that the video is meant for my girlfriend and so long as she understands what i want to bring across and feels my effort in coming out with the video, that is what really matters. All these encouraging words really helps especially when you are camera shy.

He is also very patient and does not mind NGing a scene again and again and again. Each time, he would cheer me on and watch the clip with me and give pointers on what i can do to make the shot nicer and better.

He is a full time photographer by profession and have been in the photography line for 10 years already. He also does freelance wedding assignments.

If you like my proposal video and is looking for a photographer or videographer for your wedding. Do PM me for his contact.

And of course another Big Thank You to all those who have helped in making my proposal a success. Esp to the sweetie who have helped by using her hands and legs for the making of the video.

Awesome video bro.. Thanks for sharing! You mind PMing me your videographer contact and price? Thanks

I like to purchase a diamond online. Anyone has any recommendation on where to set the diamond?

JannPaul
Josi Gems
White Dwarf
Lovis Diamond
Yuen Tung
eClarity

Try to give them a call. Some of them should be able to set the diamond for you.

My experience with White Dwarf Pte Ltd

Hi, I have read one of the reviews regarding White Dwarf which I do not think it is fair. Anyway, here is my opinion.

I have been looking to purchase an engagement ring for the past two months, have been reading online and educating myself about diamonds and where I can get the best deal. So anyway, I have been emailing jewellery shops in Singapore and in KL as well and have a very good idea of the price I am looking at for the engagement ring. Cut long story short, I was recommended by someone in this forum to check out white dwarf as I was very close to paying a deposit for one of the jewellery store in Singapore.

I contacted one of the partners of White Dwarf via whatsapp (as I am not from Singapore) and asked whether they have any diamonds to suit my specification. I told him i need him to tell me by today as I am going to pay a deposit on that day itself to another store. On the same day, he gave me the asset images and also the hearts and arrows images. We were corresponding almost the whole afternoon, he answered all my questions patiently regarding settings, ring size, what will be given with the ring purchase . He even called me from Singapore to explain how long it will take for their master craftsman to make the ring and answered more questions (which he rushed for me as I was going to Singapore in 3 weeks time, normal time is 4 weeks to make the ring).

At the same time, i was doing my research on white dwarf and the background and honestly, i could not find much. Their webpage is one page only and some advert on gumtree. and then there was a bad review here. So i was abit skeptical. But I took a leap of faith as he really took the effort to answer all my questions and explained that they are in the process of setting up a facebook page and improve their webpage. I paid the deposit the next day via TT and he told me he will ask his master craftsman to start making the ring on the same day even before he actually received the money. He updated me on the progress of the ring and showed me pictures of the unfinished ring as well. He went for a business trip one week after and before he went for a business trip, he made sure one of his partners was in contact with me to update me on the progress and also if i have any questions, i can ask his other partner. He informed me how long he will be away and when he will be back. When the ring was finished, his other partner sent me 6 photos of the ring from different angles. So all in all, I learnt to trust them.

I visited their office at Trivex building, yes it is a small office with two rooms. There is a sign to say White Dwarf Pte Ltd outside of the door. I spent a good one hour there with him who explained to me about diamonds and showed me different diamonds and compared them with the one i chose. When I arrived, he had my ring ready with the scope (i dont know what you call it) to check the GIA inscription on the girdle.

I had a very difficult time trying to spot the GIA inscription and spent a good 15 minutes at least but he was very patient and kept saying to me try to explain where the inscription was. Such a relief to finally see the GIA inscription!! :D He have me a free LED ringbox which i thought made the ring look very nice, ring cleaner and cloth and a scope to see the hearts and arrows pattern. He told me since im not from Singapore, i can come back anytime to resize the ring. I am not going to post photos of the ring as i have not proposed yet (with the off chance of my gf seeing this post!) but i can tell you it is brilliant!! I have seen a few rings at the KL store with my pave settings, the diamonds on the side at those stores are lower in quality/grade and the ones that White Dwarf made (all ideal hearts and arrows on the side he said) but whether i can verify that or not, it is okay because i can see with my own eyes it is way more shiny than the others i have seen.

Did i mention the reason i went for them was also because the price is very reasonable? At least 1.5k to 2k cheaper than the one i have been quoted by others. One thing to note is that purchase must be in cash as they do not have a credit card machine. The partner also offered to pick me up from the MRT station in case I dont know the place! Really thank you to the forum member who recommended me, you know who you are. :)

Hey, for those who got the cushion brellia and angel diamond, how did you decide which one to go for? Technically, both are "square" diamonds.

Or do you just choose one that falls in your requirement?
I still want to keep the surprise element without her knowing..

And how do you get the ring size?

Is that the same as the princess cut? It's the square one right?

Best if you can get some hints from her of what she likes if you don't want to bring her along.

It was easier for me cos my missus told me before that she wanted something simple but different. She said she was ok with a round diamond, but don't mind something more special. All of her friends diamond was the usual round diamond.

I decided on the Brellia because its kinda in the middle... between a round and a square. Since she already told me that she don't mind a round, I assumed she would like a roundish diamond, but in a squarish form.
When she saw the diamond ring, she loved it alot. She got quite a few compliments from her colleagues asking her where she got it from. I also got alot of messages from friends when I posted my ring on FB :)

Hey guys, any idea how long it takes for jannpaul to do the superimpose? Can they do a new design of my own idea and impose in the hand too?

Thanks. I need to know the timeframe to make plans.. I guess it's also too late for rush for Vday right?

The price is at the high side if this is just a common GIA 3EX.

Do you have any idea if this is a common GIA 3EX or Ideal H&A or Super Ideal H&A?

If the HCA score is NOT excellent then it is most probably a common GIA 3EX. If the HCA score is EX you still need ASET scope to further analyse if this is an Ideal or Super Ideal H&A.

There's not enough information to tell if the price is reasonable or not.. Do you have more details? Like scope images or at least the proportions? Is it even a GIA certificate? :)

One shortcut you can use is the HCA tool
Holloway Cut Advisor | HCA Tool | PriceScope

It has it's limitations thought... you'll still need to use the scopes to see the diamond.

If it's a Super Ideal Cut, the price would be very reasonable.

I dont think the super impose is for ring designs. It's more for diamond shapes to see how type of diamond will look like on the hand. The picture is all top view from the hand only and it's not zoomed. You won't be able to see the ring design properly like that.

Just a comparison with the carat and size that you can have on your budget, color and clarity are the same or better, this are from Blue Nile:

-----------------------------

Round 0.45 Signature Ideal

F VVS1

SG$ 2,467

-----------------------------

Round 0.50 Signature Ideal

F VVS2

SG$ 2,878

-----------------------------

Round 0.53 Signature Ideal

F VVS2

SG$ 2,910

-----------------------------

You can benefit from buying to the local retailer as you can see the actual diamond ;-) plus if they can give you the scope images and etc.
