IF
Fluorescence: None

I know it reeks elitism... But I wanna go for the best.

Hi have noob questions. What are the basic different types if rings required? Is it proposal ring and wedding bands?
I see the term engagement ring being used too, us that the same as proposal ring?
From some of the posts, it seems like the guy and gal go to Jann Paul together to buy diamond ring. Is that the proposal ring? If so has the guy already proposed verbally first without any proposal ring, and then bring the gal to the shop to buy proposal ring together, or something else? If so, won't the gal be unhappy that the guy did not surprise her with a proposal ring initially?
Thanks

The proposal ring is usually the one with the big rock in the middle when u ask her to marry you. The wedding bands are the rings for you and her to exchange during the vow. Engagement ring is the same as proposal ring.

Jann Paul have both proposal ring and wedding bands. The ring to buy first is proposal (so that you know she accept your marriage first :s13:) then after she accept, then go buy wedding bands.

I know some of my guy friends who bring their gf to buy together.. cos they already apply for HDB liao so in a way.. not much surprises..
For me, I rather to do it in secret to keep it a surprise.

Thanks for the reply. :)

I wonder if this will work? First propose with flowers only. Then say want to bring her to buy ring together. Will it backfire instead?

The reason for buying together is so that she can have a say. She is the one wearing it anyway.

Proposing with flowers only can backfire bro... not very sincere like that.
If you're very scared she doesn't like the ring you choose, then you can try like window shopping for one first... bring her around to look at rings and try.

This way you can.
1) Test water on the idea of getting married
2) see what type of diamond she likes
3) know what size she wants
4) design she like

This would be enough information for you to choose by yourself...
Like for me, I know she don't want the normal round diamonds.. so now I'm looking at other shapes

You should try checking back the old posts to compare prices.. That should be the price for their Solasfera.

I feel the symmetry of the Arrows is quite off in the "hearts and arrows" image.. Is it the flaw in the diamond or due to a slight tilt?

You can try asking them to re-take the picture.. the slightest tilt can cause misalignment especially with high facet diamonds

had an appt yest..
kinda disappointed.. =(
wasnt served by Jann Paul or Casy but rather their team =(
as I was hoping to learn more from experienced experts..
Nonetheless, I tried to find out more thus i asked what is important to look out for when choosing a diamond
and i just got the normal 4Cs description which i believed she thought i didnt know.
Oh well no hard feelings as i still looked like a kid =(
but well i got none of the info that i have further read online and from you ppl.

But still on a good pt..
she wasnt pushy, or hard-selling which i like.
and was very patient as i kept wanting to see different ring setting, as i wanna comepare with those i see on their fb.
And also assisting me in many requests and questions thru emails.
*im a very picky person*

As for me, Budget is an important factor.
am looking at ard 4k with a decent cut diamond with the lowest clarity and color they can provide which is about vs2/G.

But that aside, ive got a few questions.

b1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
1.This is Bad right??

2. Is AGS cert good??

3. If according to the abv pic.. is the diamond able to shine at its best?

4. Some of you mentioned that they got some machine to see the diamond.
is it to have a closer view of the diamond??

Tks to all u Gurus out there.

Edited the good pts.

Well ive decided to add my 2nd appt input here as my 2nd input was totally different.

I arrived at 9ish 10. Served by sales staff Michelle .
She felt warmer this time. Guess she was anxious the last time, im not sure. This time she shared more info with me with me struggling to rmb my questions.
Lol such a joke.

Anyway this visit was very pleasent but made even better when she asked Jann to assist her as I kept insisting that diamond A look better than diamond B.
After a long discussion with Jann I finally understood the reasons. Which is that cos of the good light return that out shine the image I am.looking for, thus am not able to see the image I am looking for. And yes, after confirmation, Jann went ahead to discuss with me my requirements and some designs pro and cons. Indeed I learnt quite abit from Michelle but more from Jann.

Anyway, if Jann were to assist me from the start of my shopping experience, it would be 9 outta 10.
But well, despite a part of me feeling the diamond is inperfect(it really is from the magnified pix), I still decided if i should make the purchase. As
1. My budget isnt very high and I only want angel cut and I dont think I can wait for the next batch to come in.
2. I am too picky, too detailed. (Imagine I can spot the difference in facet with naked eyes.)
3. Date is in 3mths time.

So yeah!

Edited : added 2nd visit

3RD visit 13th feb, i had a sudden change of appt.. so i was busy on the 14, thus i msged Michelle to request if i could drop by. But unfortunately, someone already booked her, thus I was served by David.

Awesome would be the word i would use to describe him and his service.
Sharing much more info than i already knew.. when i say info.. i meant scientific info!
Not to say Michelle was bad but she entertained my ever irritating questions and requeststs (as i mentioned im very picky as im picking one of my single biggest spending item so far besides a car) and was still totally cool with me. I really appreciate that sincere effort for me ;) *thumbs up*

Need help on a diamond

Hi, I would need help from the forum members on the following diamond I saw on Blue Nile website:

Carat - 1.0
Color Grade - E
Clarity Grade - VS1
Fluorescence - None

Triple Excellent

Table % - 56%
Depth % - 61.6%
Crown angle - 34.5
Pavillion angle - 40.8

Girdle - medium to slightly thick (3.5%)

I have calculated the HCA score and it is 1.3.

There is a rather disturbing comments stating "Additional clouds, pinpoints and internal graining are not shown."

Typical of Blue Nile website, they do not provide Aset or Idealscope images. It is quoted at about S$12.5K, so I would like to know if this is worth it?

All comments and advices are welcome. Thanks in advance! :)

Hi,

Wanted to propose to gf, but don't really know her finger size as she doesn't wear rings on that finger, in this case still recommend to go JP to make the ring due to size issue? Not sure whether can they alter, or I should just get classic designs for easier alteration?

You can estimate her ring size first. JP gives free resizing and replate/repolish of your ring for you. So it shouldn't be an issue to alter it later. I had to alter mine too.

Is this a triple Excellent diamond? The HCA score is only like a 2D mapping tool to analyze the diamond. It does not measure the minor facets for the diamond. This means that even if your HCA score is super low, it can still end up with a horribly cut diamond. A "Good" cut grade diamond can still have a low HCA score.

No matter what, the Aset and Hearts/Arrows scopes is needed to see the diamond in a 3D sense. Websites like Bluenile won't have diamond pictures because they are like middleman that sell diamonds from different sellers. (their procedure and lack of quality were exposed in an article. I can try to find it again for you if you want) Naturally, there won't be any quality control if you don't get to even see the diamond that you sell.

Some diamonds can also have other problems that won't be shown on the certificate. Like some diamonds are naturally brown, which the certificate won't say. This can turn out bad because what's the use of getting a high color when the diamond looks brownish.

When it comes to buying a diamond, I would want to see it in person first before committing a huge chunk of my savings into it.

The "Additional clouds, pinpoints and internal graining are not shown" is not an issue. It's just means that these inclusions was not taken into account in the clarity grading of the diamond, as it is too minor.

Thanks for the information, I guess it will be conservative to get a bigger size rather than a smaller size as the later can't be 'expanded' should she finds it too small right?

Altering size is normal... my hubby guessed my size 3 sizes too big :s13:
If you want to guess, guess bigger would be better.. so that it can still go into the finger

Hi all, a quick question if you please.

Some of you mentioned that you could look to get a GST rebate on your ring if you have a friend who is visiting, can anyone elaborate on how that works?

From what I understand, the GST refund counter is inside the departure area, which means your friend has to take your ring, go inside the departure hall to get the claims.

How would you get your ring back? :S

The GST refund counter is outside the departure area.. They have 2 counters. One inside the check-in area, another outside. You can claim GST before you check-in. (Think it's meant for those people who want to check-in their GST items). So friend won't have to bring your ring back to his country.

One thought I had, was that how do they know the ring is the ring you bought? It's not like that have a diamond checker to check the diamond number lol
