GIA is only indicating the presence of the inscription. Several cutting houses inscribe their diamonds with H&A prior to sending the diamond to the labs for grading because they know that the lab will then have to indicate the inscription on the comments section of the lab report and that will lead people to assume that the GIA is indicating that the diamond exhibits a pattern of hearts and arrows. There really isn''t very much that the GIA can do about it other than mention it, but it is frustrating.

Anyway about determining the extent of the pattern... The first step is to ask the vendor to provide you with photographs of the pattern that are specific to the diamonds being considered... If the pictures look good, have the diamond sent to an independent appraiser as Gary recommended.

Don't pay too much attention on the additional inscription. Even if its inscribed H&A, it does not mean that the diamond is a true hearts and arrows.

Thanks for the interest :)

In case any one curious, this diamond cost $3.9K with setting

Hearts%2520%25200.51%2520G%2520VS2%2520GIA%25201148713655.jpg

I'm always fascinated with the hearts pictures.
I wonder how they can cut the diamond with those heart shapes..

Anyway, I just got a call from JP. My ring is ready and can go collect! :s12:

my plan is to propose in bahamas this coming usa trip end of mth.

plan a: we are going for a shark dive (youtube "stuart cove") and i will pull out the ring and propose underwater! going to be a frenzy..imagine 20-30sharks swimming around us..

plan b: same in bahamas..using a remote mini helicopter, fly it together with the ringbox hanging below the copter to her in the beach at nite. tot of mounting a gopro vid cam on it too but not sure if do-able.

what do u guys think?

nice.... plan A sounds risky though....

I have done basic open water but I'm not too sure if you would fumble with the ring under water.....

Plan B sounds safer.. I've gone diving before and fed fishes under water. The fish goes into a frenzy and bites anything that they think is food. When they see a sparkling object, they will sure go for it!
