hello.. im staying at royaltowers.. paradise island itself is huge..im wondering whether to explore outside..

both of us..chinese are gonna stand out among the angmo and locals.. pray that we do not kenna any taiji...

its safe to explore outside of Atlantis/Paradise Island, nah dun worry about sticking out like a "sore thumb" The Bahamas is a touristy place, won't be surprised to see multi-nationalities there. that time i even saw a tour bus full of mainland chinese tourist alighting at Atlantis. Royal Towers ok, but the oldest of all the towers so the room might look abit dated.

enjoy ya proposal process! ;)

Dear diamond gurus

To be honest, my partner and I are quite brand conscious and we are open to paying a premium for branded jewelers given the equivalent product. Besides Tiffany and Co, Cartier any others to consider ?

We have walked past De beers at MBS once, any idea how much are their engagement rings priced from ?

another popular brand you could look at is Bvlgari, however just some advice, you are paying additional premiums purely for the branding and contributing to their marketing dollars bottomline, not really a value for $$$ deal if you asked me.

here is some comments from way back in 2012 by another poster of his choice for branded rings.

The diamond cost about $7.7k.

Oh, and these are the professional photos that they took

I also bought Bvlgari wedding bands..
Quite upset that I didn't know about JP before we bought our wedding bands... Both pairs cost $7.4k (Ladies - 5.5k, Guys - 1.9k).
The Ladies band has a 0.3ct diamond.. But it looks more like a crystal when I compare it next to the JP diamond :(

anyway good luck with ya hunt for nice wedding bands and remb to post here of your eventual choice!

I collected... still trying to find out how to take good photos of it... haha...

since it's sparkles so well, the camera can't focus on it automatically... looks like need to go manual focusing mode....

even then, the light reflection makes details hard to come by unless i photoshop...

One thing I didn't expect was that my round diamond based on a 4 prong setting... looks abit Squarish from further out..

btw what size is the diamond on the ring if u dont mind sharing.

Hi all,

Thank you to everyone that has posted in this thread. I gained good knowledge about choosing and buying my proposal ring.

I decided to propose 2 weeks ago and went straight for JP on the back of recommendations from friends and fellow forum users.

Made an appointment and was served by Sam last Friday. He walked me through the education part about selecting diamonds and buying a proposal ring. At the end of the 1st hr, I set about to choosing my diamond and my design that i already had in mind.

I chose a 0.64 cushion breilla diamond F VS1 with a setting of side diamonds and a fish claw prong ring. I think this setting will make the diamond "protrude" and look bigger hopefully :) I personalize it by adding the initial W into the tray of the ring. Am keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out nice.

Very excited to see the 3d pictures.

Once again, thank you bros for sharing your experience on buying a proposal ring. Learnt the most in this thread.

:)

Hi Bro,

I pm-ed you the pricing already. All the best with your selection.

I didnt feel pressurized to purchase the diamond and ring at JP. They actually showed me a range of diamonds.

The usual super ideal range is quite value for money.

Do go down to have a look.

Mine's a 0.63 F VS1, but round. Otherwise almost the same size, clarity and color :)

Hope to have some comments. Just saw this diamond.

Price at 3.5k

Carat Weight: 0.60 carat
Color Grade: E
Clarity Grade: VVS2
Cut Grade: Excellent

GIA cert: This is with Needle.
HCA: 3.6

Is it worth to buy? I am not sure if it is Ideal cut or Super Ideal cut. I only use the normal scope to see the diamond. Its hearts & Arrow.

I was wondering, actually to most people light leakages is it that obvious? Actually as long the diamond look nice does it matter? :) sorry noob here require some advise. Thank you!

IIRC, this. with 3.6 HCA cannot be from JP super ideal range.

Price is enticing but its shape and symmetry is in question with a HCA score that high.

that being said, it should not be the prime-most parameter to ascertain value and worth.

Is this a triple excellent (cut, symm and polish)?
If so, that it is a ideal cut, in accordance to GIA.

Thank you for your advise. Yes, it is a Triple Excellent diamond. So that makes it a normal GIA Ideal cut.

Yes i do understand that HCA is primary just a guide not a rule.

Actually after some reading, doing some homework. Asking around. My conclusion is Jaanpaul offer some good diamonds, they are relatively cheaper than those Lee Hwa, Soo Kee when we compare their premium range.

However, from practicality point of view. Do we really need the diamond to be so perfect? My own humble view is as long the diamond looks good. Which to me is will sparkle and not yellow or cloudy and BIGGG that is all i ask. =:p

Just too much of information going around that influence ppl's decision i feel. Anyway each to their own~~ :s12:

Oh ya any advise and reputable seller online?

Hi Bro,

Definitely you will find a Jewelry Shop/Goldsmith that can cater your needs both the Loose diamond and the Tiffany Setting. If you buy the two together in one shop you'll have a good discount atleast on the setting and ofcourse some perks that goes along with your ring, like cleaning, polishing, re-sizing, buy back and all that.

You will find Loose Diamond cheaper, yes it is correct, but you must have a very keen eyes for that, there would be a lot of certified diamonds out there, but this forum have given us so much guideline to helps us decide which one is the real good buy.

Goodluck to your hunt!

Hi Bro,

You can try White Flash, GoodOldGold, BrianGavin, Bluenile and Locally we got Vivo, Lovis and so many more ;-)

Why do we love diamond is because of its sparkle and setting aside it hardness among other gems, and the way it was cut and polish in an almost "perfect" way will affect the sparkle, scintillation and fire ;-)

Playing around the 4C will give so much benefit for example, if you want a bigger diamond, lower the color and clarity. If you want a good color and clarity then the carrat will suffer, but if you want both of best ways, the price will be the consideration.

If a local shops can offer the same on what the other is being offered then it's good, but all of them have 3EX Certified diamonds, some are expensive than the other on the same specs. You are comparing the get the best out of our money.

And Yes you are correct, you will decide for your self.

Goodluck to your hunt!

Bluenile is good. I have a few friends that bought from there. I didnt want to take the risk because i am spending so munch money. I prefer to see the goods and have someone "manage" the risks such as refitting the ring and etc.

I think buying online is a good idea if your partner can help to choose the diamond and the settings, ring size, etc.

All the best with your purchase

HCA is not accurate in a way, that it only can detect the badly cut diamonds. You cannot rely on it to choose a good one. The numbers it uses is the median value. Plus it doesn't measure all of a diamond facets.. Like it only measures 50% of the total facets of a diamond. So if the HCA score is high, it definitely means the diamond is not cut ideally. If the HCA score is low, 50% chance that the diamond is cut ideally. A HCA score of 3+ is one of the higher ones I've seen.

IMPO, I can sacrifice on the color and clarity, but not the cut. Granted, all diamonds will sparkle in a way. It's just how well it sparkles compared to others. Jewelry shops uses LED lights which makes even badly cut diamond sparkle.. but when you take it out of the shop, it will look like a different diamond. Best is to compare a good and bad diamond together to see the difference. From there, you can see which is the real deal.
