Hi guys, I am being quoted 7.6k for the below diamond. Think this is a good deal?

I do not really know how to look, so just look at the hearts and arrows and they look fine. What else do I need to look at?

The calculated HCA is also 1.8 while I see everyone's below 1. Is this a cause for concern?

This is not from Jann Paul btw..

Any diamond with hca below 1.4 is a super ideal so Jann Paul only carries super idea and above. So no. Not a gd diamond imo

would like to share my experience of getting a proposal ring from JP...

went around the conventional shops looking for a nice ring but didn't really find any to my or my then gf's liking (i think :s13:)

came online researched abit and chanced upon this thread...was kinda surprised tat a nondescript shop in far east shopping centre was offering customisations for proposal rings and better still, at competitive pricing

met up with Jaan and he was very patient and thorough in explaining the basics(5 Cs) of a diamond, the settings, etc tat even a layman will understand :D

long story short, went back a second time to purchase after confirming the setting and diamond, proposed, got hitched and after 3 years the diamond still looked as shiny and sparkling the day i bought it
:)

p.s. Jaan thanks for your time back then, sorry this review is abit late haha

Below is the commonly accepted interpretation of good HCA scores, so 1.8 is fine.. just do a physical check..

A score below 2 (Excellent) means you have eliminated known poor performers (more than 95% of all diamonds). Your own personal preference may be for a diamond with an HCA score of 1.5 more rather than one with a lower score of say 0.5.

think if you have the aset & heart and arrow images it will be a better gauge. HCA ultimately is just a tool to rule out bad diamonds. if i'm not wrong, HCA below 2.0 is the standard just that JP up their standard to 1.4. I suppose if the scope images are decent and save you a few thousands why not.

You need to look at the ASET scope. A lousy diamond can still get a low HCA score..

Use the Hearts and Arrows scope to check from the bottom and top of the diamond. It both sides are good, it means the diamond is symmetrical (but still possible to have light leakages).

So you need the ASET scope to check for them. This is the most important one. If HCA score is low and hearts and arrows are good but ASET is poor, there's no point getting it.

Bluenile ideal is not super ideal. They don't have the scopes.

Ya, Bluenile Signature ideal is not as perfect as the JP Super ideal, but it's still a great diamond imo.

They do have scopes, just not as detailed. Maybe need to request for hi-res or something.

Below is a random example of a Blue Nile signature. Light return is good but the cutting for the hearts and arrows is not perfect, but still sufficiently symmetrical to me.

Was looking for a proposal ring until I found this thread then made an appointment with JannPaul. Totally bought by the idea quality vs quantity, was intend go for a higher ct with lower spec but their diamonds look so shinny in real life!

End up I purchased the ring after second visit. =:p My only hope is they give a better ring box. haha

Bought a LED ring box from Qoo10 and it is complementing with the ring very well! Colleagues were totally impressed with the brilliance of the diamond especially it is shined with the blue LED light. :D

Not sure how to take a nice ring photo but here is some casual photo taken with my phone.

Trust me, it made a huge different. Everyone was like "Wow got light and its so shinny!" then my reply was "So you are impressed with the light not the ring la? hahah"

Just with the office lighting, it doesn't bring out the full potential of the diamond more over I am going to propose in a restaurant with a dim lighting, I guess it will help too. lol $17.99 including $3.99 shipping and -1$ coupon. Now I sound like a ring box seller. :|

Jialat, my instinct is telling me that I got a 1 size smaller ring... Anyone experienced this? How do you responded?

Hahah. It's hard to get the size correct without bringing her to the shop first. Mine was 2 sizes bigger. JP gives free resizing anyway so no issue.

still cannot decide if i shud go for a super ideal or just an ideal... save about $4k... any advice?

JP? i am actually looking at their ideal range which has everything their super ideal have just that HCA is >1.4 but <2.0. to me if 3ex, aset and heart and arrows are of "super ideal" should be good enough. ultimately HCA <2.0 meaning is not a bad diamond. also personally i've seen 3ex and HCA 0.6/0.8 but the aset and heart & arrows like crap.

I think more ladies care more about carat size than cutting. Can consider giving up 'super' for carat, as long as the shine is still good.

I never knew house of hung and Jann Paul were diff lol

House of Hung belongs to Paul hung's father. I think Paul source diamonds for both companies, just that JP takes the super ideal and House of Hung takes the ideal
