Of course, on everyone's recommendation i visited JP and currently have my eyes set on this: 0.54/G/VS1

If I could kindly request a favour of any learned friend here to provide me with helpful advice on if they are great/not so great/or terrible, I would appreciate it.

worried about the centre in the above scope, as it is not fully green. Any inputs ladies or gentlemen?

The scope looks good but just to point out to you, if you are into every fine detail, the proportions would/could be classified as an AGS 1 - Excellent instead of Ideal AGS 0 due to its crown angle based solely on their 2008 RB diamond proportion table. You can also see this in your HCA result where the X is outside the white line.

Does not make the diamond any less beautiful though. Reason I say could/would is because with these scopes, I dont see why it would be graded any lower than Ideal. Another reason you cant trust the diamond's proportions alone or the HCA as a selection tool.

rmb when i was choosing, no matter how I look, I preferred the solasfera over the super ideal.

I was just wondering if it is too expensive to get a 0.55 Solasfera F colour VVS2 for almost 6k?
Will a high 0.4 Solasfera differ a lot in size?

0.4 vs 0.5 difference is abit only. Can see the difference but it's not very obvious. You can try lowering the color and clarity. Only think is they might have limited stocks for the Solasfera.

Hi, I'm so sorry if this question have been asked many times, but this thread is really too long for me to scroll. As far as I like, I would like to read from the start but I really couldn't find the time yet. Few quick questions for brothers here.
1) roughly how long does it take in average to find, choose and buy a diamond ring for proposal?
2) what is the "market" rate for a fairly simple ring suitable for a girl around 25?
3) we both comes from a simple and humble family so no high expectations.
4) where to buy the ring? The typical jewellery shops (eg Lee hwa, SK & etc), sorry I know nothing about diamond and jewellery...

If they have high 0.4, you can consider. Size 49 is around average size. Both 0.4 or 0.5 will look good

Hi all, went proposal ring hunting with my partner and looked at numerous shops. JP, Larry, Lee Hwa, SooKee, Tian Po, Poh Heng, Citigems, and GoldHeart. First few times step into the shops abit awkward but after that it was all right.

Always shop hop! Don't just go for the first shop cos paiseh.

The difference between the ever popular JP is that it is cheaper compared to the rest plus they give you a quick rundown on the basics of gem choosing. However, all the other brands rendered equally good service. JP is generally more afforable as their gems are not "branded", just triple excellent like all the other shops.

After lengthy hesitation, Larry was the choice as they are reputable since very long ago. The pricing is similar, in addition we get a Lazare diamond certification on top of the GIA cert. The diamond is really very very sparkly. Both of us liked it very much and it was worth every penny. Although you don't get fanciful scope like JP, the end product is still a very sparkly gem

So go out and look! Don't just base it on paper/scope

Hi Sellun, do know what type of ring your other half like.

Fanciful? With or without side diamonds? Simple? Go for tapered if you want the gem to look bigger, if not you can opt for the normal band size but ensure that the band is thinner then the gem.

Please walk into the shop and they are usually ver friendly, and will give you a quick crash course on diamonds. Like what are the Cs you should be looking for in diamonds. Carat, clarity, color and cut.

IMHO, cut is the most important, followed by carat, color and lastly clarity. A good cut will make your diamond look bigger and shine brighter. Why do I say that clarity is the least in priority? Because inperfections in a diamond that is smaller then 1 carat is not crucial. This also doesn't mean that it is not important.

If you want to save money, go for something like VS2, because the jump to VVS range is quite big. With this in mind, you can have a better color and carat to play with. Get anything that is D-F and any diamond that hits 0.5 is a big jump.

GIA certified diamonds are usually much cheaper then diamonds with additional cert like LeeHwa's Destinee Royale, TianPo's Hearts on Fire, or Larry's Lazare Diamonds. But these type of diamonds are generally more brilliant.

Most importantly, set a budget and nego. Usually can get quite abit of discount.

Both of us prefer to go for something simple and classic, I intend to buy the ring without her knowing thus doing abit of advance planning first. Will be visiting the famous JP when I have the time. I would like to know what to expect and how long would I need to prepare for the proposal.

As we are both quite practical (not saying getting a big ring is not practical) but we prefer to spend more money on our upcoming house Reno and furniture thus I would like to go for a smaller budget but yet elegant enough for her to wear it often. Personally I feel that if the diamond is too big, its not so practical to wear it often?

I'm looking at around 4k. Not sure isit too cheapskate by the current standard? I'm 26yo, she's 24yo. Do I need to revise my budget?

If you have the time, you may slowly read through this tread, there are lots of useful tips on how to choose diamond.

If not, I would suggest to pay jannpaul a visit, they provide a 1 to 2 hours diamond education session. =)

Hi Sellun, your partner won't reject you cos you get her a smaller ring, likewise, don't consider yourself cheapo as different people have different priorities. If your other half marry you just because you gave a big diamond ring, there will be no end as to how you can fulfil the endless list of other things that he/she will want.

Ultimately, it is your wedding band that the both of you will be wearing daily and not her engagement ring out of practicality

Just spend within your budget. Take note that sales people can be quite pushy, they will email and email you asking if you are interested or not lol.
