1. Yeh, my SO has been looking for designs fitting for the Octagon for quite a few days.

2. I think you confused the term 'Super Ideal Cut' with branding. Its not the shape or style of the diamond but the mark of a quality.

Some in the diamond industry disagree on which diamonds should receive the "Hearts and Arrows" label. Because there used to be no industry standard, one person or company may say a diamond is a Hearts and Arrows diamond while another may say it is not. In the industry, the term "super ideal" is a common term that is coined and used to describe diamonds displaying perfect optical symmetry.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearts_and_arrows

JannPaul isn't the only one to use that term. There are other online sites that use that term too. Its just that JannPaul has an even tighter quality range than others.

3. They showed me the scopes of the diamond when I was there. It was impressive just like the photos. In the diamond explaining part, they'll use the handphone to take the photo and do the explanation. I was lucky to be served by Casey. He's the one doing their diamond videos. After he showed the scopes, they will show the diamond serial number with the certificate to match.

I understand people's perception on size, but side to side, you'd be quite surprised. My SO's colleagues at UOB swear by JP and they do compare in terms of shine. Also why I'm more inclined to octagon because most her friends have Super Ideal rounds from jp.

It's kinda like this, you look at a H color and a D color, by itself you wont notice much of a difference. Then when 2 girls wear them and you compare you see a yugeee difference. I've seen them compared before, and JP shine definitely stands out. Thats why my SO's priority is on cut. Anyway it makes life easier for me, but she left me the decision on which shape to pick. life is hard, after this theres still freakin wedding decisions.

On a sidenote, has anyone done a proposal in Japan before?

"Super Ideal Cut" Is definitely branding, I am aware. JP Diamonds definitely have a good cut. They already done the hard work for you by filtering only the best stones. But you pay a premium for this work, whereas you save some dollars if you do the filtering yourself.

I was also impressed with the viewing of the hearts & arrows with the scopes at JannPaul. But lets be practical...

When we see rings on fingers, mostly size, color and bling are noticed first. No one is going to walk around with an idealscope to see hearts and arrows, neither are they going to notice clarity and small inclusions VS. no inclusions. So for me personally I shift my priority to those. For color, the furthest that I went was a G, which compared to D is almost insignificant. This is of course, my opinion.

If you feel happy knowing it's a JannPaul ring with the brand and cut etc. then definitely go for it, there is no wrong or right as long as you are happy.

Heard Hokkaido is awesome from most family that recently travelled there, im proposing in danang, vietnam in early 2017 :s22:

choosing between SIC and octagon depends on your carat size imo.

if you are going for a smaller one, the octagon shape isnt obvious. i would rather choose between SIC and solasfera.

if you mount the octagon to look round, it kind of defeats the purpose. if you mount it to look octogon, it means more of the corners are out and might scratch something. not sure how valid my concern is but corners also may mean higher risk of chipping.

Hi Gurus, I narrowed down to the Super ideal cut and Octagon hearts arrows diamond.
Ignoring the carat, color, clarity, which one would you choose?
I saw someone already asking about Brellia and Octagon. Would like to hear some opinions about the Super Ideal cut and Octagon =)

I am no expert, I think the Octagon looks really nice.
This is just a noob personal preference.

What design are you choosing? I saw this on Bridestory. I feel the Brellia is very pretty and cute with the sorrounding small diamonds around it.

The Octagon is very pretty and bling too. I chose the Octagon for its sparkles. Both are sparkly but I find the Octagon has more colorful flashes. The Brellia has 57 facets and Octagon 88 facets. It will give it more bling :)
Also, the Octagon can fit more types of design because you can adjust the orientation its set.

I have the octagon.. But the brellia looks very very nice to me too. Like very cute and vintage looking.

Tough to choose between these 2 options.. But my vote would go to the Brellia; it is both cute and elegant at the same time!

I sounded her out and the missus chose the Brellia. Our ring design is a halo setting with some custom designs on the sides and the Brellia will suit it better. As we haven't confirm on the design yet, they're allowing us to choose the Octagon if we change our mind

Though the Octagon's 88 facets, 8 hears 8 arrows are very enticing :s13:

I'm a supporter for the Octagon. If you like the shape and they have the specs you want, just go for it. Back then they their Octagon selection was quite limited so I had to wait for one in my requirement to come in.

The arrow patternings are very clear and sharp. Its like a firey meteor rock :flash: We had friends and strangers commenting on it. Sometimes, I think I like the diamond more than my fiancée. haha

This is mine, not sure how big is yours, mine is a 0.5ct.

Thats a really nice stone and setting. The kind of setting with decreasing band width as it reaches the stone is something I like because it makes the stone look 0.2-0.3ct bigger. When I show my 0.7ct, people say look like 1.0ct.

Also, the color quite white, is it a D/E ? Bling looks good too. Care to share the GIA cert ?

I'll go for the 0.844 because i can't tell F and G apart so no point paying that extra 1k.
But it really depends if it bothers you/your other half that G is not in the "colourless" range.

Could you see the color difference? If you can't, then go for the G. It's 0.04ct bigger too. The Solasfera has a full light return which will make it whiter or a color grade higher than it is. So no need to emphasize too much on the color IMO.

Best i could find on JA with same pricepoint is :

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...g-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2110648

This 1.01ct stone has a HCA score of 1.8

If I were you, i would probably stick with the solasfera stone you are thinking of. My 0.7ct stone with 1.1 HCA costed me $2,060 USD.

What is your solasfera HCA score ?

What?! free earrings? how did i miss out on this.... :(

noob me wouldn't dare go for one with florescence, rather go down on carat weight instead if there's budget constrain.

For example, bluenile.com/sg/diamond-details/LD07902456"]this .36 E vvs2 - total top view size difference : 4.89mm vs 4.59mm

That's mainly because i have no idea how will the florescence affect the looks.

You got the ring on hand already? Mind shedding some light on how the florescence thingy? some says it doesn't affect the look and some say it does, and some says it does but in a pleasant way.

Worth it or not, only you can tell us if it's worth it or not.:D

Its a unique coupon code i got off another website, unfortunately the promotion has ended already. I tried looking at the diamond during afternoon in sunlight and it does not show any blue hint and when i put it under UV it shows a nice light blue colour. I do wish my diamond has a very slight blue under sunlight though as my FW loves the colour light blue:s13:

Will try to upload a picture under sunlight and UV later when i have time.

I'll pick F due to it's only 1000 differences in price.

However if your 0.844 G color is VS2 (priced even much lower), then i might go for this G color instead.

No offence bro, but i think you need to do more research before giving advice here cause you're very misleading. Firstly, HCA score is only applicable to a diamond of excellent and up symmetry. HCA is calculated by the AVERAGE angles of a diamond. if a diamond has "very good" symmetry, You can't just apply HCA because if your diamond has a crown angle of 32.5 degree and less than excellent symmetry, the vary of degree can be 31 all the way to 34 around the diamond.

There are no HCA calculations for modified diamonds either. You can't use HCA for cuts like the Solasfera.

Second this.

Anyone can advise upon collection of ring at JP what are the things to lookout for and what complete set of documents am i entitled to?

Things like image of laser imprint no. To tally with the cert is upon request and not they auto give right?

Any others i can request? Thanks in advance. Super excited!

No offence taken, its all healthy discussion.

I am fully aware that I am not qualified enough to give advice. You might be confusing "advice" from "opinion". Even my opinion in the last post was to get the Solasfera over the one I linked from JA. I'm sure we're all here to get different opinions from varying experiences of individuals :)
