TYTY. The diamond size is 0.6 carat. Joy recommended this setting to me. I told her I wanted side diamonds and she gave me her 'top' picks then I just chose one :s13: They had to rush it out for me during the CNY period and she was still texting me during the holiday to update me. Very impressed with her service and dedication.

Haha you are really new to this. Cuz no one will be able to tell you how much a diamond costs just by looking at those info.

I searched for 0.7x stones before at JannPaul, they roughly fall in the range of between $4,200 to $4,900 for their normal 3Ex ideal cuts. If you want their signature cuts, be prepared to top up another 20-30%.

So cheap meh? I remember 0.9 ideal was 9k for F VS, 0.7 only 4-5k? Think should be more to 6?

I don't know how much 0.9 but 0.7 really around that price. But I have to say lar their 3Ex ideal cut not very good. I viewed four 0.7x 3Ex all have light leakages under the table.

My 0.74 E IF heart shape cost me $4,100.

Hi,
I'm thinking of proposing to my gf sometime in May.
Anyone has experience buying engagement rings from Etsy?
My gf has indicated what kinds of rings that she wants but I was wondering what the workmanship was like.

Thanks in advance!

Etsy's just a site for sellers to list their products, so the workmanship depends on the seller. They're almost always a tiny setup run by just one person (usually a one-woman show), so it's varied. You can luck out and get a highly skilled jeweller who does small handcrafted batches, or (as I have experienced several times) a seller who just makes shoddy products with a huge markup and poor aftersales service.

Any recourse for a bad purchase would of course be highly limited, as well as aftersales service being virtually non-existent.

If you are looking for a diamond ring, I highly doubt any of the rings on Etsy are well checked for quality, not on the same level as a normal jeweller (whether brick and mortar or online).

TLDR - 90% chance it will be of inferior workmanship, 99% chance it will not be of the workmanship that you would want for something as important as an engagement ring.

P.S. why would you even want to get something as important as an engagement ring off Etsy? If budget is an issue, there are more reliable sources to get a well-crafted engagement ring for whatever budget you may have.

I feel u shld get the ring from brands of better reviews. Like JP, they have great cuts 0.3 at 2K (rough guide for u). If not u can look around for local retailers. I never hear of the diamonds having problem like dropping off or what from local retailers but i heard alot of stories of diamond dropping from customized diamond dealers.

My hub got me a 0.7Carat at a local retailer for only 2.1K and its quite shiny and of great cut. not yellow at all! the original price was 5K but he manage to get it at 2.1K cus he got it during christmas promo. For u, maybe u can wait for valentine's promo?

I love it! and so far so good!

Rmb u shld only get what u can afford, afterall its jus a ring and its the heart that counts!

Thanks for the feedback. My gf was the one who suggested a store on etsy because she doesn't believe in getting diamonds or the value behind it. She rather other stones like morganite or emerald.

I too have suggested JP to her but she doesn't really see the point behind spending so much on a ring when the money could be better spent on other things.

I see, that makes more sense, but you can still get a local jeweller to craft you a bespoke ring with other precious stones. I think that would be a safer route in terms of quality control.

My experience with etsy sellers has not been good. Most of them are hobbyists with middling levels of craftsmanship who think that by being hipster and non-conventional, they can sell their knick knacks at a premium price. Etsy's a place for trinkets and not for serious jewellery pieces IMO.

Nice setting! I got the Octagon too but did mine in a plain setting. I wanted the the design with side diamonds at first then realised her wedding band will be with side diamonds too. So I did 1 ring plain and 1 ring half eternity.

Enjoy your Octagon ring. It's very firey. The 88 facets will give you double HUAT :s13:

I agree with mero. Etsy is like a gumtree but for handicrafts. I got some handmade coasters and small furniture items there before. Jewellery wise, they are more for costume rings or accessories. I think its ok for anniversary/bday gifts. Don't think its a place for proposal rings.

You're a lucky man that your gf don't want you to spend much :s13: Another way is for you to get wedding bands which will be cheaper and is for daily wear. And if you want to spend more, can always consider buying a nice watch too. Doesn't need to be a ring :)
