Hi guys,

After intensive reading of the thread, I started my journey last week. I was quoted the following in JP last week.

Super Ideal Cut
0.41 F VVS2
$2,650 (Including 7% GST)

0.52 G VS1
$3,900 (Including 7% GST)

0.52 G VS2
$3,750 (Including 7% GST)

0.51 F VS2
$3,900 (Including 7% GST)

I will be viewing the following diamond from private jeweler tomorrow with the following specs.

0.57 F VS1
$2990 (Exculding GST) GIA 5253310948

Do you guys request the jeweler to bring ideal scope or Aset scope when you view the diamond?

Hello everyone! I am new to diamonds. Been to JP twice and based on my budget was recommended Super Ideal diamonds that were in the range of 0.5X ct, F/G color and VS1 and 2 clarity. However, I felt that the diamonds were a little small and decided to look for an ideal diamond and maximise the size instead.

Went to a lot of local jewellery stores and finally managed to shortlist a diamond with the following specs:

Carat: 0.72 ct
Color: F
Clarity: VS1
Cut: GIA Triple excellent
HCA: 0.9
Size: 5.71-5.75
Fluorescence: None
Inclusion: cloud, crystal, feather, pinpoint
Table: 56%
Depth: 61.9%
Crown angle: 35
Pavilion angle: 40.6
Lower girdle: 80%
Star length: 50%
Girdle thickness: medium to slightly thick 4%

Scope Image: http://imgur.com/a/x6LB1
(Scope images were taken by me so image quality abit off)

Price: SGD 4.8 for diamond only.

Is the diamond ok for an Ideal cut?

From my amateur POV, one side of the diamond looks like it got like leakages. The Hearts not too symmetrical and not as defined.. but that's just my amateur take on it. Maybe other experts here can advise.

TBH, I think if you see the Ideal cut on its own, it will still look ok. Only when you compare it with the Super ideal cut, then got striking difference. But as long as you are ok with it, then don't think too much.

Reposting my video for you. Its a Super ideal and Ideal cut (left one is Super ideal)

Well, I think all honest jewellers will have the Aset scope. lol

It seems like the problem with the right diamond is that it's cloudy. TBH there isn't much visual differences with naked eyes on Super ideal vs ideal(for JP's), maybe just 10-15% if you got above average eye power and stares at it long enough.

Why get diamond when there's moissanite? If you're not intending to sell why bother with diamond and pay huge price tag when you can get colorless, same spec like diamond? I'm sure if your partner loves you enough they won't mind. There's other better things to spend that money on. Don't get tricked by diamond industry.

These are a choice, I don't think anyone are 'tricked'. It's just like how people enjoy branded goods, cars, watches, camera, atas food etc

I just viewed the diamond today from the private jeweller. The HCA score was 1.3 for the 0.57 carat piece at $2.9k ( no gst) but somehow the impression of JP's diamond is much shinny and the light performance is better. The price of private jewel us about 15% cheaper than JP. But i guess i will end up going back to JP coz of the light performance.

Anyone have any delimma like me whete one is cheapr with bigger carat but light perfromace not good vs more expensive, smaller carat and good light performace.

Fyi, he saw me Rapaport diamond report which shows diamond price on different range and specs and calcualte the 0.57 carat base on that report. Anyone has the same experience ?

Well, I think all honest jewellers will have the Aset scope. lol

Perhaps you can ask JP to source a nice ideal diamond for you instead? You might be able to get bigger size plus shinier than your other private jeweller. Depends on your gf preference and finger size?

IMO 0.5 is alright for someone with very slim finger, ultimately it depends on the girl also lor, I'm sure you want to get just the right size that she's satisfied with. Never ask her before or pretend bring her go Jewellery shop to test few sizes? Haha. The average Singapore proposal ring is 0.5-0.7

Thanks for your suggestion. Yeah i will be heading to ask casey to help me source one to compare with super ideal cut. I know her ring size already and i guess to her light performance is more important then carat size. Hopefully at least a 0.5 for her.

Can anyone tell me what is the thing circled in blue, will it affect the sparkle of the diamond? Thanks.

Went to JP today and was quoted with the following:
1) 0.56 E VS1 - $4,400
2) 0.51 D VS1 - $4,300
3) 0.51 E VVS2- $4,300

I made a deposit on the first one. Wise choice?

Seems like the best choice among these 3 diamonds that you listed.
D & E color difference I personally think is very very little but 0.56ct vs 0.51ct the difference is pretty big right?
I would also pick (1) if given this 3 choices.

Congrats on your purchase! :s13:

Just to ask if my budget is $3-4k with setting what is the best specs?

Depends on cut color clarity, better to head down to check with the Jeweller.
I think if JP, should be able get Super ideal 0.4 F Color VS2. But you can consider drop your cut to ideal and bump up carat size, maybe aim for 0.5

IIRC 3k - 4k you can get a 0.4+ct - 0.5+ct super ideal~ other specs like color and clarity wise Im not really sure alrdy. Maybe you can email JP and ask them. :s13:
Not exactly sure, but I think 0.5+c is more than 4k+. For 4k and below, I think size will limited to 0.4x and below. At smaller sizes not worth to buy super ideal IMO, just go for a ideal standard diamond and maximise the carat

agree. personally i feel that super ideal is only worth it if can get at least 0.6-0.7 above. If budget constrain, i'll rather drop the cut to ideal and get bigger carat

Solasfera is a patented designer cut, there won't be anything to review on scopes haha.

Just be confirmed that you're comfortable with G Color, initially I opted for G but in the end picked F instead. If time is on your side you can always KIV for next stocks
