Proposal / Engagement ring survey

Hi all
If you have 15-20mins to spare to help with a survey, DM me and I'll send the link.
The aim of the survey is to get a true idea of the engagement rings that people are buying right now.

#everyvoicecounts
Thank you so much in advance

Yup, looking to secretly bring out on the weekends. But so far no luck. When I do get photos in the open, will post again.

No worries.
The best lighting is in the open, shaded area. Even the most well cut stone can only reflect what surrounding light there is. It’s not a torchlight .. lol

Been helping a few bros out and busting the quota on my PM so deleted some n can’t recall the specs on your stone. But well done.

Miltah, got price comparison for 0.5 for recommendation?
Budget $3K.

JP
0.35c F VS1, $2450 (Solasfera)
0.37c G VVS1, $2400 (Solasfera)
0.43 E VS2 $2750
0.43 D VS1 $3050
0.43 E VVS2 $2900

HOH ideal cut
0.41c, F, VS2, $1950
0.58 G VS1 $3,250
0.56 G VVS2 $3,300
0.58 E VS2 $3,500

0.52 G SI1 $2690 after gst delivered
https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-4089709.htm

0.51 H SI1 $2380 after gst delivered
https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/...ls/0.517-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-104105318101

I’ve listed the price for JP SIC n HOH ideal.
With your budget u will probably get a 0.3-0.4c SIC. If you want to get to 0.5c, even with HOH you are pushing past $3k due to the price jump at 0.5c

I’ve listed some of the ‘cheapest’ from online for comparison. Not that these are what I would pick but any other choices and the price would likely go up abit ...

I also dun know if your budget includes setting, or your friends color tolerance

Interesting. No idea how your Solasfera is cut
U ok with I color?

I think realistically, a G vs H vs I is not going to make a significant difference. I saw a post here who got quoted/paid for a Solasfera 0.667 G VS2 for $6300 (from JP?). I’ll gladly take the size bump and $2,000 for I over G.

For D-F, there is less variation. Even if u compared 2 drops in color grade, a D vs F, some find it hard to pick up.

From H onwards, there’s a higher variation. Some would ask if it’s a high I color or a low I color (which is closer to J). No doubt it helps if u plan on setting it in yellow gold

I would also gladly take a size bump but not at an expense of a poorly cut stone. Unless you can provide an ASET/ideal scope image, there is not much I can tell u

The validation on the size bump is good to know. I got it from the original Solasfera patent holder, so i wouldn't be too worried about how they cut it. I'm settting it on platinum or white gold though, but i did take a look at different options, and couldn't really tell major differences (but then again, I'm no expert). I thought it represents very good value, especially compare with a Solasfera 0.667 G VS2 for $2000 more (i forgot whether it was JP). But then again, it's always good to ask around.

https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/news/black-brian-gavin-vs-brian-gavin-signature/

One of the defining attributes between BGD black and signature is the elimination of the contrast areas and any possible light leakage between the arrows.

rOd0Mby.jpg

For ASET, we know red = light return and white = leakage.

In stone 2 (the sold stone), you can see the contrast blue between the arrows

In stone 1 (your current choice), the blue contrast areas are minimised but it’s edging towards some white, possibly due to the depth. The cutter is really pushing boundaries here

In stone 4, u have maximum light return and hardly any blue contrast between the arrows.

Is stone 4 better? Probably but we are really splitting hairs here and your chance of finding such a stone in the size n color u want might be even harder

Like what you said, the diamonds are pretty limited and so I got the 1.23 G VS1 SIC piece. Hopefully it isn't too bad a diamond, given your critique against the sold 1.20 and BGD's.

I think you did well. I was just nit-picking.

That’s another reason why I would go for a SIC vs a solasfera. Now if we are trying to reduce or eliminate the inner ‘blue’ contrast in a SIC then u will realise that there’s quite abit of contrast in solasfera.

Everyone raves about the sparkles but I personally dun like the fact that close up viewing or if u have your head directly over it, the centre could be dark.

I personally tend to drop clarity as it’s graded via a 10x loupe. Of course, there are also some inclusions which I won’t buy. Thus I tend to suggest SI clarity over color as color is more easily picked up from the side.

If u are not color sensitive, by all means go for the I. It’s good value. U could also consider a classic Tiffany 6prong as it will cover more side body

Any comments on the Super Ideal cut or Octagon please? Need to decide by this week.

It's a personal preference bro. You can't go wrong with either diamonds. JP already curates their diamonds to be top performers. If anything, some might find them to be overly strict.

Get some hints from your SO if she wants the more unique octagon or round shape. JP has alot of comparison videos on their youtube for you to watch.

Anyone go down & purchase their wedding band after getting a proposal ring there?

Any special deal given? Are their band better (design/material) than what was offer outside?
