Just wanted to update that I can somehow tell the difference between SIC and IC now 🤔 went down today and did a comparison again. SIC ring fire were really chunkier and happen more at the outer rim under LED lighting.

But of course this is only apparent if you -(i) have another inferior ring beside it and (ii) keep rotating the rings and staring at them long enough. Most ppl will probably not be able to tell at first glance.

But being able to see this difference makes me want to lean towards the SIC ring haha..

Just go for the SIC bro. No need to think so much. Once you see the flaws, it will keep bothering you.

Ya, I'm going to customize. Gonna propose either by this Dec during our Japan trip or early next year on our anniversary. Ideally is in Dec if I can make it in time.
I'm going for something with side diamonds as that's what she wants. How it is designed will be up to me. I saw this ring video design and like how the spiral part encases up the diamond. I will change want to change the heart prongs to a more simple round prongs instead.

Overall, do you think this design will be too extravagant? Hope I can get some female opinions here. I don't have much female friends to ask arnd.
Do you think it's better to remove this part of the diamonds and keep it plain? Meaning that there will only be diamonds on the whitegold portion.

Remember to factor in if that design is able to stack easily with your wedding band in the future. Some gals will wear the e-ring and wb together.

Engagement Ring

Hi guys,

After going through some research, I realised there's a lot of JannPaul going on. I have heard of other sources, and there's quite a bit take in, from the specifics to custom shops that make them. Care to share a little bit of advice? So below is what I plan to have (if it's possible to have such combo):

1. Oval diamond (I don't see many people having this convo haha)
2. No need for intricate designs, such as twists and turns stuff
3. Cut wise, heard it matters a lot as it brings out the sparkle
4. Band to be tapered, with bits of diamond lining the circumference.

From those normal shops that you can find in the streets, oval diamond is already a strike.

So yea! Would be great to hear your opinions on how to get them (or maybe even a reason not to)

Thanks!

Oval diamonds are not known for their sparkle but more for its shape.
Even the better oval diamonds have massive light leakages (the white and green parts are the light leakages. The red is light return). Ideally, the more red there is the better. But even the best ovals have only like 10-20% reds, and the rest are all light leakages.

Shapes like the oval and pear can have the undesirable bow tie effect. This is something you need to look out for too.

Need some help. My gf told me that she likes square diamonds and I intended to get the Princess cut. But after seeing it in real life, I dont like how it sparkles so differently like the round shape ones. The rounds looks way better and its not in the shape my gf wants. Then I saw the Octagon cut that fits the bill. Its the only square like diamond that have the hearts and arrows. The 88 facets is a plus point.

The Octagon overpowers the Princess when I compare them. Fire bigger, more flashes, more brighter, and overall in its own league. I did consider the Brellia too but its more cushion than square. I selected my Octagon to rotate this way to be square.

I want to change the prongs to be bigger like this. Do you guys think it's too big?

Make a wax to see. The size looks fine to me if square is the shape youre going for. I wanted mine in the octagon shape and in the sharp prongs. Here's mine

Hey guys, if planning to propose overseas, is it ok to bring the entire box and put it in hand carry and past through custom?

Or have to take the ring out from the box and put the ring elsewhere?

There’s a high chance the ring will sound off the metal detector in custom. Make sure the ring is not in your pockets when you go through. Either put the entire ring box in your hand carry or ring in your wallet.

Okay got it. But if put ring box in hand carry, when pass through, what are the chances they asked to open up the box?

It does look more square with the triangle prongs. Size still seems ok from your drawing. Just like Mikelou suggested, ask them to do the actual 3D render for you. It will be proportional.

Thanks! I'm waiting for them to do my render by this week. Nice ring @freewilly5000 ! Your sharp prongs looks nice too. Usually, the process is 3D > wax > craft right?

Estimate with her hand photo or ring sizer. JP has a ring sizer chain to try diff sizes on your pinkie to estimate. They recommended me a Asia 10 to be safe as tt's the average.

They got a cable tie ring size to bring home to try but its hard to sneak it on if u wanna keep it as a surprise.

I ended up having to resize mine smaller. They give 2 free ring resizing anyway.

Yes. 3d 2 weeks, wax 1 week, craft 6-8 weeks. I read that you can also request for them to superimpose the 3d on a photo of your gf's hand. I didnt do this cos of time constraint.

@Miltah Bro :

How do you find Brian gavin quality vs JP? Isit a better alternative to ship the diamond in and get the settings customised locally

BG quality will vary. U need to know what u looking for and pick the better stone. IMHO, BG Black is overrated and the signature presents good value.

As compared to JP, I dun believe there’s a visual difference with the better BG stone. But JP excels in symmetry when magnified under scope view (if paper perfection is impt to u)

For high colors, clarity and hassle free service I would go JP.

If u know what u looking for, extensive inventory with a view for best bang n largest caret, I would go online. I would ship n set locally

Rebate back to you guys for the help here! My Turn to share ring pic! Collected my ring ring last weekend and got to chalk up my 6k spending for 100k miles :D

FYI, Standard chartered had a sign up bonus for their Xcard. Spend 6k after 2 months of sign up date, and you can get 100k miles. They lowered it to 60k miles now already, but still worth it if you know you gonna spend that 6k.

Mine is a super ideal cut diamond of 0.72 F VVS2. Like many others here I went to JP and had excellent service from them. My SA is Sam. Only managed to confirm my diamond after going there 3rd time...
Mind you, each time I go is 1 - 2 hours. So definitely good service there at which no point I felt pressured at all.

I think its needless to say how shiny the diamond is. Everyone here comments the same thing about JP diamonds. All I can say is they really know their diamond stuff well and their services goes beyond the usual which I have experienced so far. I was running late to collect my ring and Sam brought out the card charging machine outside to me so I could use charge my card for points because their store was closed already. I only reach 8.45pm! Any other place would tell me to come another day, but not Sam (they close at like 8pm?).

Don't mind my ugly hands. Just finished my reservist outfield and got super tanned.
