How did the Solasfera compared with the Brilliant rose?

You can see my old post here.

Hi guys, I just bought a Solasfera diamond (upgrade). Will like to thank all of you for the useful diamond reads. Adding my part to the contribution.

For those who are confused about those higher facets diamonds, this might help. There are a several high facets diamonds available. My first one for my proposal ring was from Soo Kee. I got the Brilliant Rose series, 0.43ct D VS2 for about $4.5k. Was planning to upgrade back with them.. Their policy is after 2 years the diamond will depreciate by 20%. Originally wanted to upgrade back with them for the savings. For the same specs, a Brilliant Rose 0.7ct will cost about $13k.. Total top up will be about $9.4k.

Lucky I went around to compare.. A Solasfera 0.73 F VS2 cost $8.2k. If I get from JP, I’ll be saving $1.2k and still get to keep my Brilliant rose ring Going to reset the diamond into a pendant.

Anyway, for those who wanted to compare the technicals between the cuts, I tried comparing both under scopes. Here it is..

This is from the hearts and arrows scope. The Brilliant Rose arrows are much thinner than the Solasfera.. Apparently, this is not considered to be a hearts and arrows diamond.

This is from the ASET scope. Solasfera can see is more red and Brilliant Rose has light leakages.

My wifey holding the rings. This was just outside of the shop under the shelter.

Compared the diamonds outside under the sun.. The Solasfera is on a temporary ring clip.. It’s not yet set on a proper band yet. Almost in all angles, the Solasfera gives out a colorful flare. The Brilliant Rose does give out flares too.. but not as much as the Solasfera. Can tell that the Solasfera is whiter even though it is 2 color grades lower..

Under the shade

And finally, a video of them under their spotlight machine. Sorry for the poor video quality.. took it with my camera phone. This is suppose to see the fire and scintillation. Can definitely see that the Solasfera outshines the Brilliant rose..

Very happy with my new purchase!

Conclusion:
Spent less (upgrade Briliant rose is more expensive)
Bigger and better diamond (more afforadable to get a new Solasfera)
Get to keep old diamond for sentimental reasons
2 items for wifey to wear instead of 1

Wifey happy, I happy =p

Thanks for the advice guys! Now I'm 50/50 with the brellia and octagon.. opinions here is quite mixed.. I know she likes the squarish diamond and I saw the octagon can look squarish if you rotate it that way. Hmmm...

Ya octagon diamond it can look squarish depending on how you set the diamond too...

I like octagon diamonds so I think my comment will be bias too haha. But I suggest you show her this too to see her reaction? Maybe she doesn't know that there are other options than the brellia cut. Maybe also show her the solesfera? There's so much more bling than octagon!

Since my SO is not someone to compare, wanted to get the biggest that can fit my budget. Getting the diamond from a contact overseas so will need to set the diamond locally.

GIA report: 1227461529
HCA: 1.2
0.71 G

No doubt I know it can definitely not be compared to a JP Super Ideal level but carat does matters. For the price I'm paying, I'll probably only get a 0.5x.

Finally got my ring!

Hello everyone,

Was on this forum for very long - spying other people's purchases, wondering whether the purchase my SO made was the right one, if i should change design etc etc :s13:

After 6 months, my SO finally proposed! haha We bought a 0.71 E VS1 back in December, and he kept the ring for so long :s22:

Wanted to write my review because I promised Jerome that I would do so.

So here goes:

We went to JP with lots of good reviews, decided to set an appointment and was served by person X. The diamond education was v brief (20mins) and we were totally the awkward couple, hence didn't want to make a commitment then. Was told off by this person X (because X was stunned we didn't want to put a deposit first). We ended up feeling felt quite upset about it :( Decided to forget about JP and shop around.

In the mean time I did lots of research - online, offline, and with my friends. Fast foward, we decided to give JP another chance since everyone had such a good experience. E-mailed JP and asked for Jerome (recommended by someone on this forum :s13:). Went down with SO and wah it was a v different experience!! haha SO felt a lot more comfortable, and I was also quite pleased with the experience.

We weren't introduced to the different types of cuts earlier diamond education, and I was also quite tired after the months of research - so I choose the super ideal. Was quite scared on how the diamond will look mounted, because I wanted a diamond band but SO was keen on a v simple solitaire. Was worried it won't look bling enough, but I was so wrong. The diamond is v bling :D

Throughout the whole process - selecting, negotiating, requesting for scopes - Jerome was very accommodating and helpful. I could message him throughout the day asking about the different things (claws, ring size, colour etc.) and he would promptly reply my messages.

There was even a happy accident. I had initially chose squarish prongs, but the ring was set differently (similar to this)
my SO didn't know and didn't check when he collected in Jan. So when I got the ring after he proposed, I was like eh why like that one :s13:.

But in true JP service, Jerome genuinely felt bad and offered to reset the ring in the correct prongs for me. However when I compared a live sample of the squarish prong setting, I realised it didn't look as good as the one I had - so I label this a happy accident :)

All in all I am very happy and keep staring at my ring everyday :D

Was around $4-5k.

Seeing is believing maybe true in this case. I've not gone to jp but booked an appointment with them. I went to private jeweller who quoted me 4k for a 0.7 but somehow it doesn't sparkle. Have u seen your diamond?

I've seen a 3D image of the diamond. Honestly sparkle is one thing but my SO rather focus on the carat size. Of course can get a more sparkly one at the same price but it'll be significantly smaller. Unfortunately girls I've asked all agree that carat is still the main factor.

JP diamonds are definitely much better quality but they also come with a premium. I've been there once too. Anyway I can't stop people from comparing with my SO, if they want to compare all these then comparisons will never stop.

It was a tough fight and I went for the brellia. She likes the corners to be rounded like the cushion shape and her sister told me better go for the brellia since she already said she likes it.. haha. The brellia is also very nice.. They showed me the diamond outside the shop. Even though it was cloudy, it was still super bling :D

have you tried asking JP about that? I think some bros here did inquire and they do carry lower grade diamonds.. could save you the trouble of buying the stone elsewhere and setting it here, and you could also see the physical stone while youre at it haha
