G VS2 is already at the 'best bang for your bucks' regime - considering the fact that you dont mind G color.

Their pricing are already significantly cheaper than other stores hence it's kinda fixed and if you would like to have a better pricing, use UOB one card and split the payments over 2 quarter paying 2k every month to get 5% rebates, however do note that you will need to go down to the store every month for them to charge the card and you can only collect your ring after you've completed the payments.

Alternatively, check with them if you can get a small discount on cash payment (maybe just 1-2%), no guarantee on this tho, usually they will suggest you to use your credit card for rebates instead.

Thanks for the advice! Really helpful for me since it's likely to be my first and last time buying a diamond :s13:

G and VS2 was recommended to me too by the JP salesperson as the best value for money, on the basis that it will still be visually stunning when viewed in isolation, and the G colour wouldn't be visible unless one is a diamond expert or if viewed beside a higher colour grade diamond.

I was also considering the octagon cut, which is really nice when the diamond is viewed by itself (oriented with the tips pointing north and south), but which kinda lost it's uniqueness once it was set because the shape wasn't as prominent when viewed from a distance. The JP salesperson advised me to just choose a round brilliant super ideal with a larger carat weight which would be the same price as a smaller octagon :s13:

Haha, congratz! It's a very nice diamond and size, pretty sure your gf will love it, (considering the fact that average Singaporean proposal ring is 0.5-0.7). I hope you didn't let her know that you were planning to buy a big one (you should tell her you won't buy anything above 0.7 and then give her a surprise :D)

Personally I'll go for Super Ideal too, most people prefer round, unless she specifically say that she likes the Octagon more.

Haha no, I think she is expecting the average size because I've always said that I don't want to splurge :s13: We even discussed just getting a sapphire ring instead which she said would also be nice enough.

Hopefully it should be a nice surprise for her! I'm quite satisfied with it, although it wasn't the first choice initially (looked extensively at a cheap 1.01 or 1.02c HOH ideal but eventually decided against it due to the dead spot in the center which didn't sparkle; wanted to see a 1.02c JP super ideal but it was reserved right before I asked).

Next headache for me would be to choose the ring setting! Thinking of something clean, simple and elegant because my gf doesn't wear much jewellery and generally prefers simpler designs. Was recommended a 6 prong tiffany setting without side stones, but there are so many possible variations to choose from!

Like KinoChoco suggested, go see their videos on youtube. You can also read more info on their blog.

They just posted a video with a ideal and super ideal. The ideal cut's aset scope look good. but somehow still doesn't sparkle as much as the super ideal. Guess the aset scope isn't everything..

Check out their other videos under their channel for more educational videos. :s12:

Thanks. It seems like I hardly know anything about diamonds and have lots of reading up to do :o

What about this? Simple, nice & with heart prongs, can chose to mix rose gold or stay full white gold or even with side diamonds.

Initially, I was thinking of this setting from a Venus Tears design:

JP said it could be done and they have done something similar, but advised against it because the design isn't timeless and may end up looking abit tired after awhile. Basically, 不耐看.

Went to look through JP's album of ring designs on FB and shortlisted a couple of designs.

For a 4 prong setting, I quite liked this ring from JP:

Only thing is I've read that 4 prongs may not be as secure as compared to 6 prongs, but the side profile with the visual of the "floating" diamond is just gorgeous.

For 6 prongs, thought these looked pretty nice:

Good thing is my gf doesn't wear any jewelry at all and is very easygoing, so there's a lot of room to play with for designs! Completely blank slate for which to work on haha

Hi everyone!

I went down to JP last week and switched diamonds.. below are the scope images of the new diamond. One thing I'm worried about is the less intense light return in the middle of the diamond.. Am I being overly concerned? Noticed that the previous diamond I selected, the middle was red (Last image in the post).

Can I any kind soul help post the images? Thanks in advance!

Thank you mero_cwj!

I kinda prefer the previous diamond actually... The new one has more light leakage (white areas in the ASET scope image, as well as the spot in the middle with less intense light return.

The ASET scope image for the previous diamond showed virtually no light leakage at all.

Is there a reason for choosing the new one? Difference in price?

Edit: Just noticed - previous one was a solasfera? Explains the fantastic ASET scope image.

Yes, the previous one was a solasfera and they had rather limited stock. Decided to switch to a super ideal and up the carat instead. The latter diamond is a 0.75 E VVS2

Good choice. I did the same thing as you. I realised that girls compare carats rather than the bling because thats all they know about diamonds!!! :s13:

Hi, mind to share around what price a ring with 0.5crt to 0.7crt diamond cost at JP?
Thanks

my 0.64 octagon F VS2 cost me $5.6k :) you could possibly push the price down further if you opt for a G color.. my understanding is that as it approaches 0.7 the price increases exponentially haha

Hi all,

I've been spending some time reading on the previous posts from the thread also doing a bit of my own research. I have sort of narrowed down the specs I'm looking for in a diamond.

Round
VVS2 to VS1
D to F
0.5-0.7

I was hoping some of the more experienced members could give their opinions on my choice? Would I be able to get one for a Budget between 3-5K. I am actually willing to go up to 7k if not more depending on the need. However knowing my gf, she wouldn't want me to spend too much (around 2k) on the diamond.

Nonetheless, I do want to get one that's significant enough in size and will look good to the naked eye when she wears it. Since it's a once in a lifetime thing ( for me at least) and I think she deserves it. Hence the specs I chose based on what I've read so far seems to fall nicely in that category. I'm just not too sure price wise if I'll be able to find one.

Otherwise, appreciate if some of you could let me know what I should be looking at for the price range stated? I understand that JP seems like a popular choice with most here, therefore I would inclined to get mine from there as well.

*Disclaimer* I know that ultimately I still need to go see the thing in person since the specs on paper may not look as good in the flesh. Just want to get an idea so that I can start planning financially, and also get an idea of where to look.

Thanks for the help in advance!

5k should be able to get just below a 0.6 for a VS1 F color

I am also having a hard time choosing the setting! chose the diamond but have yet to decide on the setting. Looking at a 6-prong setting but not sure if I should stick to the simple plain setting or try to include some design of significance in it.

As of now, I am contemplating proposing to my girlfriend with a temporary ring and then get her to go choose her setting thereafter.!

Does she have certain preferences or styles that she likes? I think it's more meaningful to design something with what she likes in mind rather than letting her choose it herself though!

Yes, she did mention about having six prong setting with a simple design and even gave reference to her friend's ring which was from JP too (one of the settings you mentioned with the heart design). As we both like the sea and nautical stuff, I did have thoughts of including some simple nautical designs in the setting but haven't got down to it. Wanted to discuss with Joy from JP but it seems that she does not design the rings at JP. Any idea who I should consult on this?

Try browsing their FB. They have some similar designs you can get your inspiration from. I'm not sure if these are meant to be nautical elements but they seem to look like those sea rope kind of design. Or you can browse the internet to see what designs you like and ask them to customise it.
