because there is more than meets the eye. the other 3 Cs is the factor why price varies. my advise is go for g-h color because you cant even see the difference. go for SI-Si2 inclusion as long as its eye-clean.
you will save alot by going down 1 level. save the money and go for the best cut diamonds. go for the ones with lots of fire and scintillation with ideal aset image.

a little help from me

hi gurus

need ya advice is a D .46 VVS2 Solar @ 3.7k with pintpoint, cloud, and needle a gd buy?

Hi, i have been doing lots of research for about 3 months. learning everything i could so that i can make a decision that i would not regret for rest of my life. right now, i can safely say that i know even more than the average sales guy in brick and motar stores.

to put it in the most simple terms. diamonds 4 Cs, cut is the most important.
to save money here's what i suggest:
1) color - your gf cant tell the difference between D-f to G-h color
2) clarity - unless she has a microscope, save some money go for 'eye-clean', Si-S2.its decent enough
3) carat - there is jump in price for every round figures .4ct, .5ct so on.savvy shoppers search for diamonds under this magic weights to get a little more for their money. my gf finger is small, 0.35 looks good and safe for her to wear it daily.
4) pay most attention to the proportion of the cuts. dont just rely on the cert numbers, ask for aset image to see for yourself. if there is Sarin report, that is more accurate than the GIA/AGS cert.

i only go for these proportions
depth = 60-61.5% (don't exceed 62%)
table = 55-57% (or 53% minimum)
crown = 34-35 degree
pavilion = 40.6-40.8 degree
girdle thickness = thin to medium 2.5-3%

once you follow these spec, you will narrow your search to the best premium cuts in the market.

anyhow, cut story short. i realised brick and motar will always sell whatever they have to pay for rental. its understandable they might not tell you everything, so do your due diligence. you will be surprised that local diamond stores purchase diamonds from online stores these days.

i got my loose diamonds at whiteflash.com 0.35 ct at usd$854/sgd$1155.50 (sgd/usd @ 1.35). shopping is really easy since i can filter the specific diamonds i want and the aset image is easily available. they are also kind enough to waive bank charges and throw in ring box. shipping is fast with their Fedex express service.

i set my diamonds locally at JP, if i need resizing/ re-plating it will be more convenient. i also ask them to verify my AGS cert and the laser inscription in the girdle. i chose white gold since it can be reflected into the diamond increasing the sparkle. i also chose tapered band to make the diamond stand out.

spend half a day to shop around for the ring setting heres what i found:
Ling jewellers - $800+
Michael trio - $889
vivo diamonds - $800 flat
Jp (house of hung) - $700

i hope this help your decision making easier.

You didn't get taxed 7% when shipping to Singapore? I actually did thought of the similar approach as you but taking in consideration of everything including fees and after sale service, I figured there's no harm paying just a couple hundreds more and get the top quality cut from Jann Paul (comparing G VS2 to G VS2) and can see it in person, I wouldn't want to risk getting SI1 as there's a tiny tiny chance of chiping.

Anyway, did you test water with your gf and sure she's 'happy' with 0.35? Haha because I've spoken to majority of my female friends that has slim fingers, none of them like anything below 0.5, altho they wouldn't mind and won't tell their partner that they prefers bigger...haha.

White Flash ships via FedEx so you'll receive a GST invoice a week later after they deliver to you.

If you get whiteflash's ACA series, they are better than JP's ideal BUT might not be of super ideal standard. As ACA standards are not as strict as JP's super ideal hence I'll say they are somewhere between ideal to super ideal. if you're an expert, you might be able to pick out some ACA that are as good as JP's super ideal standard.

It's just too much additional effort to search for a super ideal level from whiteflash just to save 200-300 dollars but lose out on other after sale service. E.g free polishing, lifetime upgrade from JP etc.

Thanks Doraemon for the help, but i am really confuse with those comments in the cert (with pintpoint, cloud, and needle)

mind taking a look below:

Lastly, I would like to ask if platinum is really more shiny than 18k white gold? will it be obvious if the band is platinum and the ring is 18k whitre gold

This is a solasfera cut, they are all of top quality so there's no need to worry much on the scopes, just decide on your preferred size/color/clarity.

Personally IMO, for JP's Solasfera or Super Ideal, they are all specially selected premium cut, they will all look around the same hence no point to go into detailed analyze of the scopes....unless you're going for normal GIA triple ex or their normal ideal cut then yes, you might wish to analyze the scopes and pick a better one.

IIRC, green on the aset is weak light return. On the aset, i can see a patch of green on the bottom right corner of the diamond. Theres also some green streaks near the middle of the diamond next to the arrows. From the scopes I see from here, those areas should all be red. I dont think thats a super ideal

Whiteflash ACA is not the same as JP's super ideals. Their quality is not that strict. A closer comparison is their ideal cuts (from their house of hung stocks). Last I checked, their ideal cuts were actually cheaper than Whiteflash.

You can send them the link of the diamond you see on Whiteflash and they'll quote you their diamond based on the same specs. But of course the quality won't be as good as the super ideals.

I went for Jann Paul diamond education recently. It seems that super ideal is determine when HCA score is below 1.4. Does it means that even though whiteflash ACA HCA is below 1.4 it is still not as great cut as a Jann Paul diamond?

HCA is only to check the basic 17 out of the 57 facets of the diamond. It only to weed out the bad ones. Its possible for a badly cut diamond can still get a HCA below 1.4. You just need to make sure the HCA score is low and then check more with the scopes.

It's not that simple, you need to check the scope images to verify if it's super ideal. Typically, WF's ACA are slightly better than JP's ideal but JP's super ideal are better than WF's ACA. Which based on the pricing it's correct, cheapest being JP's ideal followed by ACA and lastly super ideal being slightly above ACA.

For best bang for your bucks, you're better off getting ideal from JP if you're on a budget or get super ideal if you want the highest quality. WF's ACA is only couple hundreds cheaper after factoring in the GST and setting cost etc....which you might as well go for super ideal from JP, fuss free.

Im curious why would u save less than 200, lesser after setting and yet u can't physically see the diamond?

.35 prices should be extremely competitive...since the Base value likely makes it very hard to mark up.

Correct me if I am wrong..for smaller diamonds it will be very hard to tell the color difference even if it's a h I j color as long as the cut is good? Since the whole thing is sparkly

4) pay most attention to the proportion of the cuts. dont just rely on the cert numbers, ask for aset image to see for yourself. if there is Sarin report, that is more accurate than the GIA/AGS cert.

i only go for these proportions
depth = 60-61.5% (don't exceed 62%)
table = 55-57% (or 53% minimum)
crown = 34-35 degree
pavilion = 40.6-40.8 degree
girdle thickness = thin to medium 2.5-3%

once you follow these spec, you will narrow your search to the best premium cuts in the market.
