Yup definitely. Although can set the diamond with the retailer (but still about 2x the price). Upgrading depends on the retailer, but the good ones (Whiteflash, GoodOldGold, Brian Gavin Diamonds) do offer upgrading and buyback.

Haha yep I know they do offer upgrades, but not practically for us, we have to pay a hefty insurance and shipment back to them, and they send us again with GST etc chargeable :/

eh guys

we watched a few videos on youtube, joined a few msg boards, seen a few diamonds, does not entail us to recommend diamonds eh.

it is in a value that most need to save up quite a while for, we can point them to where to get info, but dont think it makes sense to recommend at our noob knowledge.

No offense but recommending others to buy from places we have not purchased before is quite doh...

I'm not really recommending, more along the lines of sharing diamonds I came across which may be good buys. Plus the sites that I'm looking at (Whiteflash, GoodOldGold, Brian Gavin Diamonds, James Allen) are actually very widely recommended online retailers with very high quality standards.

After all, no different from people commenting on JP scope images to say whether it's a good diamond or not yeah? If not then this thread would be dead already, just go to JP, ask them for a good diamond, buy and set, end of story :s22: They're the experts with more than just "noob knowledge" after all!

P.S. Maybe I should qualify by saying that these are diamonds that I also considered buying, for what it's worth

I've read that some of the retailers actually have a process for waiving the GST on returns and settings, just a bit more troublesome because have to fill out customs paperwork. You're right on the upgrades though, probably have to pay GST which comes up to a fair amount.

Haha yeah actually most of the places you mentioned I did check before, even asked for quotes on solasfera from goodoldgold. But in the end decided JP better as I might pay couple hundreds more but at least you're sure you getting a top grade super ideal and you can view the diamond in person and everything.

Ring hunting

Its finally my turn!

I’ve been “stalking” this thread for god knows how long. >.< My HTB and me went down last Saturday and it was damn packed.. Lucky we made an appointment with them beforehand. Jerome assisted us for the appointment and the education session is super comprehensive. (I also don't know whether I paid so much attention during class last time.. hahah!) I think I’m one of the few ladies to request that I wanna be around during the diamond ring selection process, most of the customers there are guys! >.<

Ok moving on to the choosing the blingssss. We were shown the all the signature diamonds Super Ideal, Solasfera, Brellia and Octagon... #lovestruck~ Totally in love with Brellia and Solasfera! It look really blingbling

Jerome told us usually if come noon time can see under Sunlight..but because it was pouring heavily we couldn't step out

Some pictures i snapped!!

Can I check with you how much is the halo setting.

I have limited Budget, and was looking for a ~ 0.4c brellia. Was quote a .43 G VS1 for 2.6, not sure to get the halo design to enhance the size.

I think the setting price is 1.2k right, as compared to normal setting, it is about 650 different. Not sure to use the 650 to maximise the carat weight.

Any comments from the expert here?

What's your objective? Don't get halo setting solely just to enhance the size...only get it if you really like halo setting. Just chose a setting that you like and maximum the carat weight.

Oh I think the halo setting is nice haha cos bling bling

Are you very particular of color? (Color sensitive)? Ring setting with lots of side diamonds will somehow gives the illusion that the main stone looks less white, meaning to say, a G color main stone in a halo setting might appear to be more tinted as compared to simpler setting. I'll suggest you head down to the store and request for some halo or similar ring with a lot of side stones with a G main stone and see if you are ok with it.

If you're not very particular with color and you like halo, definitely you should go for it :)
