Hey bro/sis, I gotten a 0.62, G, VVS1 at 5k for diamond alone. If you can forgo the color grade (which they say can only be seen at the bottom and once you do setting, can't really tell), you can up the carat or save the money.

what is the price range different between super ideal and ideal please?

In the arrow photo (top right) the 3 and 9 oclock arrows seems abit misshapen and slightly out of alignment. Its the same as the arrow photo on top left but at the 12 and 6 oclock. This is why the bezel light leakage area also abit unsymmetrical. I think this is more of an ideal cut

Oh i see~ do you know what is the price range different between super ideal and ideal please?

Hi guys.. Sorry need to sidetrack abit.. I'm looking for nice balloons suitable for proposal. Bought a few from taobao but they're disappointing..look yellowish and dirty.

Anyone got specialized shops in sg can recommend?

You can try those party shops next to bugis+.

I don't frequent this thread but for sharing purposes, i would like leave my review on Jann Paul here.

I made my purchase of Jann Paul’s engagement ring for my gf some time back in April 2015. Back then, I actually went down with a close friend of mine, as he was intending to buy an engagement ring for his fiancee.

The "famous" ION jewellery street
Prior to us going down to JP, we actually went to the “famous” ION jewellery street @ Orchard MRT. Now, I am willing to bet that I am not the only one who thought of this place, when the theme of “engagement ring” comes to our minds. Jewellers like Love & Co, GoldHeart and Lee Hwa were places that we went to but an observation that I had was that these places have profits as the forefront priority in mind. For now, let’s not talk about the “price” first.

Problem #1: Inability of typical jewellers to address customers' needs
The first question they asked were: “What’s the size of the diamond (carat) that you are looking at?” and “What kind of person his fiancee was? (so that they can choose a type of diamond ring for her)”, as the probing questions to a potential customer. My basic expectation from a sales person is to address my needs. If you are able to, I will naturally be more interested to hear you out as there is a common understanding between us already. But unfortunately, I wasn’t able to hear these or sense good vibes from our typical jewellers.

These typical jewellers actually gave me an impression that no questions need to be asked. The only question that matters is that if you’re looking for an engagement ring, let them know your budget and the size of the diamond you are looking for. And hola, the deal is done and it’s as simple as that.

Problem #2: Inability to customize and severely marked-up prices
Do you know that the premium range for Lee Hwa Jewellery does not allow us to customize or even “re-size”? It comes as a set. Pro is that you’re able to bring it home on the same day. Cons will be pretty intuitive. So, I wonder how many of the guys out there actually fell prey to this and allow themselves to settle for something with the “ring size” as the priority? It should never be that case. Also, if we bring the aspect of “price” into the picture, unless you have a deep pocket, we can definitely find ourselves getting a better deal from customized jewellers such as JP. The price that Lee Hwa quoted me for my ring below was $16k before discount (after discount $13k~). Although the diamond quality is good, it is still madness, seriously.

How we ended up at JP
Like many customers, at this stage of life, I am puzzled and in fact clueless to going about buying an engagement ring. So somehow, we decided to leave these typical jewellers, feeling that this isn’t right. Then, I recalled about reading about Jann Paul here and thus, we headed down to try our luck.

Experience with JP
The person who served me was Jerome, and he actually presented a very professional front which assured me confidence in making such a huge purchase. Why do I say so? Because he actually asked correct questions. Questions such as “do you know what you’re looking for? If not, will you be interested to go through an informative session with us?” Back then, we don’t see why not and particularly so, if this domain isn’t our forte to begin with, all the more we should be going through it. The main takeaways from this non-obligatory session was that carat is not the only important thing to look out for, there are other C’s such as Cut (most important), colour and clarity. Shall not go into the details (I actually don’t remember already) but I am sure our friends @ JP will be more than enough to share them with you.

And unsurprisingly, my friend actually made his purchase of his engagement ring on the spot and collected it about 2 months later. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting myself to make the purchase on the same day too because I was just accompanying him but hey, the credit card 0% installment scheme as well as JP’s deposit program motivated me. Since prices of diamonds are never coming down, I might as well do something first to hatch the price. So, I actually bought the “stone” first.

Moving Forward
About 1/2 year later, I actually went down with my gf for the same information session but this time, with Casey. Both Jerome and Casey are very professional and even to the extent of explaining the relationship between the ring setting and the diamond, we feel that the things they shared make sense. It don’t come from the perspective of earning money from you. Yes, they will definitely earn profits (which business don’t) but more importantly, customers still need to be able to make an informed decision prior to their purchase. To me, this type of service by JP is consistent and definitely goes a long way and up to today, I had recommended 3 friends to head down to purchase their engagement rings with JP. And so they did, which all of them thanked me for introducing JP to them. I don’t earn commission from them but I feel motivated in doing so. It don’t hurt by sharing good stuffs with your friends. The key is “good”. And JP is indeed good in what they do. Frankly speaking, although I might not be returning anytime soon to purchase another engagement ring (probably a wedding band?), I am definitely sure that I will be recommending JP to the people around me. To share a bit more, here’s some picture of the engagement ring from JP. Cheers!

Very pretty! My diamond has almost the same specs as yours and I haven't seen the final product yet - so I'm very excited that I can imagine it through your pictures!!

Could I find out the setting that you chose? Did you opt for the tiffany setting or did I mistake the band :s13:

Fully agree with this review, I also went through many private jewellers that can't compare to JP... one of the other more famous private jewellers even misrepresents their diamonds by showing a diamond with a printed cert but the shown diamond isn't even the same one.

Overseas proposal

Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone of you proposed overseas, where did you hide the ring? If i put it in my carry-on, do you think it's safe?

Was it the first design they send you? Usually the first design is a draft. Then from there can make changes or modification. I modified mine 5 times. Haha. But honestly, I was quite fickle

Has anyone tried negotiating for the pricing of the ring setting? I feel like I'm paying more as compared to others per the initial quote given..

Really? Phew, feels better knowing that. When I first got it earlier today, I was like "huh that's it?!" I just feel like something is missing. I would definitely want to modify mine, but I don't even know where to start...

How long did they take to make the changes and re-send you the next set of 3D photos?
Why so? :s11: Your scope images or the ring setting?
The ring setting. For sure the real thing will look a million times better than the 3D but before I can give the go-ahead I need to like wowwww first?

Oh yes, you were saying to post the image links here so that kind souls can help me to post them? Haha it seems like I can't even post links...they told me to remove the links before I can submit my reply. Help, anybody?

Break up the image tags, i.e. Leave spaces in between the links, and someone can help you embed the images

Hmmm...my impression is that the price of the ring setting is rather fixed? with or without side diamonds only, and of cos unless you go for a bigger den usual side diamonds den you would be quoted differently altogether.

Are you going for any fancy design?
I may be wrong though, I didn't ask much about these. and thanks for your help, regarding the links bit.

When I did modifications, it took only a few days. I think simple changes are easier to do. When I decided on a whole different design setting, that one took abt a week.

Same. I received my scope images (of my Solasfera) today and was definitely disappointed from the misalignment and unsymmetrical pattern which i could not spot with my eye on the actual day.

As i have insufficient post count i could not post my image here. The JP staff that emailed me said it is not meant to be a perfect circle and referred me to the one in their fb page (mine looks slightly worst than that)

EDIT: I just realized CaptainFantastic post #192 (pg 21) has my scope images. Cant go wrong because mine also has the distinct line above one of the hearts.
Which is funny because when i asked for the scope images they say it takes around 1 week+ to produce? :s11:

Has anyone bought Solasfera? Please share your scope images so that i can at least be assured

They also linked me to their hearts and arrows scope image from fb as a reference for me:

facebook.com/JannPaulDiamonds/photos/a.229021750463647.62398.142685262430630/229022010463621/?type=3&theater

The Hearts and arrows scope is it normal to have those light leakages?

Honestly I think scope images are good to inspect the overall quality and symmetry, but don't have to be so fixated on it.. unless you're going to be carrying your own scope and looking at it every now and then :s13: to the naked eye i'm sure your solasfera/super ideal will still be damn bling.
H&A doesn't display light leakages, just the symmetry of the cut. solasferas have zero light leakage per the ASET scope i.e. no white areas, just green.

Hi DiCaprio, i was scouring through the thread and found your scope images which was what im hoping my Solasfera would look like.

I wonder if that was the reason why the previous guy didn't buy this diamond.

I told JP to halt my ring production because of this :slant:

If it helps, this is mine. JP has very strict control on their cut standards. Are you able to link your scope pictures?

The hearts and arrows picture doesn't show light leakages. Those you can tell from the Ideal and ASET scope. That time they took 2 weeks to send me my scopes. If you want them faster, you can ask them to use their hp to take photo too.
