As a guy, if within reach, I will top up abit more for a bigger carat or color/clarity grade.. esp if her friend diamond is the same type and same carat size. But that's just me :s13:

She already said she likes the Brellia then stick to the Brellia la. or you can show her the Octagon videos to sound her out.

Either way, the Brellia and Octagon is in a league of its own and they are the best in their own cuts already. You won't go wrong with either one of them.

Hi guys, would appreciate some advice on this.. I'm choosing between the octagon and brellia diamond. I know my gf likes the brellia for sure. Her fren has a brellia diamond ring and she said she likes it alot and commented how shiny it is. I saw the octagon in JP and quite like it too. It seems more popular here too.

When I compare them, both diamonds are very very sparkly. Just that I find the octagon has abit more sparkles, probably because of the 88 facets against the brellia 57 facets. The movement of the sparkles is also faster when I shift the diamond.

This is the video I took.

Brellia

Octagon

Thing is, I also want the diamond to be different from her fren. My gf likes the brellia for sure and I think she will like the octagon too. I prefer to get something different from her fren and don't want to look like I "copy" her fren's diamond. Summore the carat size I'm getting is about the same.
Would girls think it like this? Would like to know have a girl's opinion on this...

This is the design I'm getting

Very nice video there. 1 vote for octagon cause of the unique shape and the shape stand out when compared with friends with the traditional round and other shapes which are common.

P.S. I am not the best person to recommend which diamond to choose because i have gotten an octagon diamond myself so i am abit biased towards that. Hehe =p

personally prefer the brellia as it looks more posh. the octagon in same carat size looks smaller by comparison.

personally i chose the octagon, but you may want to consider checking with your gf on her preferences? i always felt the octagon to be more of a round diamond type than a square one like the brellia.. it may be your gf's preference to have a squarish diamond instead?

Thanks for the advice guys! Now I'm 50/50 with the brellia and octagon.. opinions here is quite mixed.. I know she likes the squarish diamond and I saw the octagon can look squarish if you rotate it that way. Hmmm...

Opinion on diamond

Hi Guys! Definitely not a pro with diamonds here. Went down twice to JP and was quoted 6.9k for a 0.64 D VVS1. (GIA 1217691086)

SO has a small finger at a size of 7.5 and hence I feel that a .64 is just right. Hence, opted for a D VVS1 as I do not have to get such a large carat (thanks to her small fingers :D)

What do you guys think of the price and the diamond? Will provide the scopes once available!

On a side note, there is a "feather" in the diamond. Will that be an issue?

I'm a size 5.5. Went to JP some time back and have been eyeing the octagon diamond (like many others, I thought it was less common + it looks round from far. I had brilliant rose in mind) with tapered band & side diamonds. We are looking at 0.4+ carat as I feel anything bigger does not look very proportionate to my finger. Waiting for SO to place order... Not sure if the diamond we were quoted for is still available.

Advice on JP Cushion Brellia

Hi folks,

New poster here looking for some thoughts on a JP cushion brellia that I was recently shown.
I've received the scopes and cert, although I can't post them due to my new status. Here're the stats of the rock nonetheless:

Type: Cushion Brellia
Carat: 1.028 Colour: F Clarity: VS1
Cert: AGS 104060074004

For the more experienced diamond gurus here - what are your thoughts on this particular rock, and what would be a reasonable price range for it?

Thanks.

Both the Brellia and Octagon looks really good but if I gotta choose one.. I guess Brellia?

I personally likes the curves of the Brellia and since your SO mentioned she likes the look of her fren's ring then... GO WITH THAT! Safest choice. :s13: Maybe you can do customization for the ring design if you want it to be special?

p.s nice videos btw, both looks damn nice!

try sounding your girlfriend out about the octagon and see her reaction? something like casually showing the octagon video and saying: i saw my friend's ring and it looked something like that.. what do you think about it?' hahaha

hmmm 6.9 for a 0.64? sounds a little on the steep side for me. is this a round brilliant? i guess it might be the premium that you are paying for the D color and VVS1 ( one grade before internally flawless). Personally I would have selected a lower color (F) and lower clarity (VS1 or VS2) and rather spend the additional budget on upping the carat weight, since the diamond quality wouldnt look anything different to the naked eye anyway.

Feather is fine as long as it does not compromise the integrity of the diamond ( i understand that if it is along the facet edges, it could cause easy chipping in the future or something). try asking JP to point them out to you and have the salesperson make an assessment?

My first ring was a brilliant rose and then upgraded to the solasfera. One thing I learnt about these high facets diamonds is that you better check the light return with the scopes.

How was the scopes? HCA isn't everything. I saw a diamond with HCA 0.6 before but it looked badly under the scopes

Hasn't gotten scopes yet..
just wondering if the diamond is worth the price based on the size/clarity/HCA..

the scopes play a big part, whether the diamond is symmetrical, whether the way the diamond is cut allows for optimal light return ( this translates to sparkiliness) etc. All anyone can say at this point is that for that size and price, it is worth a closer look.

Yeah. Its hard to check the price just by those specs. Hca is useless without the scopes. I sent you a pm for price comparison I had last time.

Reminds me of my friend, he got the Ideal cut from LeeHwa 0.7ct D IF for 14k. That was 2 years ago and he didnt know about JP.

How did the Solasfera compared with the Brilliant rose?

My husband got a ring from SooKee previously and he bought me another ring from JP (after requesting for so long =P). I will say the one from JP is far better than my first one in terms of brightness.

Picture for comparison:

Most likely going for the brellia. I asked her sister and she likes the brellia too. Like one of the bros here mentioned, I will up one of the grades abit :) Waiting for them to check the stocks.

After hearing opinions from some bros here and some friends outside, I probably could make do without a D VVS1 diamond but instead bump up the carat (SO would be happy to hear it). The only concern is that SO has a 7.5 ring size and I'm afraid the diamond may look too big on her.

Below are the other options provided by JP. Which one should be a better choice considering the factors i mentioned? (all are well within my budget)

1) 0.64 D VVS1 $6900 (initial choice)
2) 0.71 E VS1 $7400
3) 0.74 E VVS2 $8350
4) 0.8 F VS1 $9100

Appreciate all comments from everyone here! :)

read somewhere that you should try to avoid rounded carat numbers.. like for example a 0.79 would be much cheaper than a 0.80 while they most prob look the same.. i would think a 0.69 F VS1/2 would most probably cost the same as your initial selection?
