Hi all,

Just a quick question, how do we know if the diamond is ideal or Super ideal?

Like for example, if we go to other Jewellers like Lee Hwa, Soo Kee etc, is there anyway to find out if their diamonds are Super ideal?

Thanks in advance

Lee Hwa, Soo Kee etc. don't use scopes (Ideal & Aset) for their diamonds so can't really determine that their diamond is of super ideal cut quality. The only scope they have is the heart and arrow scope which is just to see the symmetry of the diamond.

Moreover, you will realise that the lighting they use is very strong and is not a good lighting to view diamond. Thats why the scopes (use to analyse light performance) come in handy and to ensure it shine under general lighting too.

All of these B&M shops has their own 'ideal'/'perfect' cut diamonds under different branding series, however, you be rest assured that they are of 'ideal' level, but you won't know whether if its 'super ideal' unless you assess it via ASET scope to verify if it's maximum light return.

either way, they are usually priced much higher than JP's super ideal, so you might wish to check out JP instead unless your partner specifically wants certain shop branding.

You can try go read their blog, http://jannpaul-diamonds-paul.blogspot.sg/ or if you're lazy to read can also go their YouTube channel also can. :s13:

Basically, you need to use the HCA score and the Ideal, ASET and Hearts and Arrows scope to view the diamond. only if it passes all then can it be considered a Super Ideal Cut. Problem is not everywhere got the Ideal & ASET scopes for you to look at. So you wont be able to exactly determine whether the diamond is Super Ideal cut or not. :D

Thanks all for the quick responses. Am I right to say that simply based on the GIA and AGS certs, we are not able to identify of the diamond is Super ideal or ideal?

Anyone has an ASET scope that I can borrow/rent/buy?

Want to visit some other shops aside from JP for comparison's sake, but most of them usually only have a H&A scope and rarely will have an ASET scope for viewing.

Please PM me if anyone has one!

book appointment, expect to spend at least 2-3 hours there, if you are ready to buy, set a budget first (so that you don't get carried away and overcommit in the heat of the moment). If you are unsure, can place deposit to reserve the diamond you're eyeing while you think about it, you can swap to another JP diamond without losing the deposit.

IMO, ask them to let you see Ideal quality diamonds from House of Hung stock as well, to get a comparison.

Don't think so. Haha actually TBH, if you're aiming for a super ideal level diamond, you probably can't find other place going for cheaper. If you're talking about ideal level, to get a decent match in pricing, you need to search for triple ex from other stores but most of those diamonds look damn bad even without ASET.

I'm pretty convinced of that as well, but shopping for diamonds is actually surprisingly quite fun! At least until I have to pay up...

I've been looking at whiteflash since it's one of the few websites that provides scope images, including ASET scope images, and for a comparable diamond to what JP usually sells (based on the scope images I've seen in person and on this thread), whiteflash's pricing usually isn't very far off, sometimes even more expensive!
