This is my overdue review of JP.
I started out like most of you, searching online for recommendations and reading guides and education on diamonds. We probably all started with google and friends recommendations.
My process was friend recommendation of SK LH etc -> Online education and retailers -> JP & various private jewellers locally
I'm abit KS, and admit I went down quite a few times, but they were always friendly to accomodate me everytime, I was served by Casey-> Sam-> Joy-> Casey
My hats off to all of them for being so patient with all my fickleness and questions.
The difference between ideals from most places and JP is that in most places, anything that comes close in towkosky ideal proportions is classified as ideal already, whereas JP is super nitpicky and consider only the best light return, symmetry, minor facet problems, clarity etc etc(those who went down will know what im talking about). It's much more to their super ideal selection than one expects.
Which is a really a good thing from my personal perspective. It make sense, cut does play the most important role of a diamond appearance. Casey showed me how some slight painting in girdles can even affect a diamond visually, and why they will classify it as ideal. And yes I can tell the difference once he points it out. Would I have noticed before he pointed it out? No. But that's the whole thing I like about JP.
There was a local jeweller who told me to trust GIA certificate and everything else is nonsense. JP shows you every part of a diamond and what happens when it is not "highest performing". Honestly, no other company cares about what they sell you. As long as it's a diamond that has profit.
Of course, end of the day, everyone's sensitivity to appearance is different, and some may not see what JP is pointing out. Online sites that teach about diamonds always say cut is the top priority and I agree. I went down to JP so many times because the first 2 hours wasn't enough to cover all my questions, and I am actually curious about alot of things; small minor details that affects a diamond appearance.
TLDR: I did not end up with a super ideal, I got one of the other special cuts from JP but I cant write it here. My gf browses this as well, she knows what i'm doing but she just doesn't know what is the final decision.
She's very impressed with the first appointment with Casey as well, and left it in my hands. To everyone here, enjoy the journey, do the best you can for your SO, because we want the best for them
I work around orchard as well, and anyone who wants to talk about cut, I can share my hard worked findings over lunch break just pm me. My advice is to learn as much as you can while finding your diamonds whereever you are looking for, if you settle for JP, ask questions, they won't avoid questions and are always accomodating.
