Hi Mero. Thanks for the explanation. The diamond I am looking at is a cushion cut diamond, I am not sure it is considered to something that is unconventional.

Yes. I am very uncomfortable with the fact that it is non-refundable & exchangeable. If I were to reject the first diamond and get the 2nd diamond, I have to pay 110% of the diamond. I don't mind that a deposit is required but I want to have the flexibility to pull out of the deal if the diamond is really not what I expected it to be based on its specs.

Try Jannpaul's cushion brellia. I am getting that. :s12:

I see, that makes more sense, but you can still get a local jeweller to craft you a bespoke ring with other precious stones. I think that would be a safer route in terms of quality control.

My experience with etsy sellers has not been good. Most of them are hobbyists with middling levels of craftsmanship who think that by being hipster and non-conventional, they can sell their knick knacks at a premium price. Etsy's a place for trinkets and not for serious jewellery pieces IMO.

I agree with mero. Etsy is like a gumtree but for handicrafts. I got some handmade coasters and small furniture items there before. Jewellery wise, they are more for costume rings or accessories. I think its ok for anniversary/bday gifts. Don't think its a place for proposal rings.

You're a lucky man that your gf don't want you to spend much :s13: Another way is for you to get wedding bands which will be cheaper and is for daily wear. And if you want to spend more, can always consider buying a nice watch too. Doesn't need to be a ring :)

Thanks for the wise words! Any local bespoke or custom jewellers that you guys can recommend? I see many people here are really into JP but they don't do emeralds and other stones right?

I think House of Hung can do. They're related companies. Maybe check with them?

Can try Lings Jewellery. My rings are from them. Can design and customize your jewellery.

Understand from SO that they hold very limited stock for diamond, but no worries you can always buy from JP and get Ling to set it on your desired ring. They do have the Scopes for you to view the diamond but they won't send you like jp do.

to add on, I have a friend who bought from Fairy's Inc. He got a diamond ring, but their focus is more on the ring design than the diamond itself, so you can try checking with them to see whether they can do non-diamond designs as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have dropped emails to the different stores so I'm awaiting their replies now. Have spoken to my SO about it and she doesn't mind diamonds but more on the specific design/ring setting. Will update you all when I get more info:)

Haha, that's probably because she has never seen the actual comparison of a bad vs good diamond in person and how the bling will be so much difference.

Not bad, but you would had saved some bucks for size if clarity drops to VS2, but i assume there's no such stock hence she get you the VVS1

She did show me some other clarity but bigger carat but it was more expensive but not by much. Like maybe 100 to 300 bucks

100-300 more expensive but how much bigger? IMO i'll go for the bigger carat with F VS2. Between VVS1 and VS2 you will not notice anything, it does not affect the sparkles at all, but size will be noticeable haha.

Hi All,

Went to Jann Paul this afternoon and put down a 1k deposit for a 1c diamond.

1hr later was calling them to ask if I can change my 1k deposit to wedding bands or any other items in Jann Paul instead but was told it was not allowed.

Wondering if anyone had the same experience and whether this is normal?

You can change to diamonds in JP's stock (super ideal, octagon, brellia etc), but not for ideal range diamonds or other diamonds from House of Hung's stock. Wedding bands, as I understand, are also under House of Hung.

Difference is around 0.03 ish? Size wise, not sure but I don't see any difference. Haha

Does anyone knows where to get a slim ring box that we can use to carry around easily without being discovered?
