HCA is for rejection only. The diamond can still be bad and have a good HCA score. It will be better if you have the ASET and Hearts/Arrows scope to further check it. Because a bad triple Excellent with good HCA score can still have bad light performance.

I think diamonds can be classified into 3 categories: Super ideal cut / Ideal cut / standard GIA triple excellent.

If the diamond is a standard GIA triple excellent, you're still overpaying. But then again, its v hard to say which just this information.

Watch this video. The diamond HCA score is 1.0 and its still v bad.

Anyway the size different is less than 10%, I'll go for D for the sake of 'best' color, that few pointers different in size won't sound as impressive as a D Color.

yea, very obvious for us when the diamonds from D to G were placed side by side, looking thru the side with white lights.

D - F can't really notice.

Anyway, again it is your comfort level. Also even though it is graded G, it might be closer to F or closer to H, every stone is unique.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I've decided to go for a D color and will up the size abit. They have limited Octagon diamond stocks right now. I still have time so might wait for their next batch of diamonds for more options.

On another qn, the first ring you buy is the proposal ring and after this still need to get a wedding ring? What is the difference? If she will only wear 1 ring daily, can I skip the 2nd ring?

Well the proposal ring can also serve as a wedding ring if it can withstand the daily wear. But I think it will be for the better of you can consult your partner on this matter haha.

Ok. I think I confused myself earlier. It should be,

proposal ring = engagement ring = wedding ring

then the other set is wedding bands

So after she says ''yes'' (hopefully :s13:), then its the wedding bands. I asked around and they say wedding bands is the one that you use for the ROM.

Knowing her, she will only wear one ring daily, which will be the proposal ring. If that's the case, is it ok to skip the wedding bands and I just get my own band for the ROM? Becos I know she won't wear the band for sure if she has the proposal ring. And she's not picky about it. Like this, I will also have more budget to put in the proposal ring :)

now trend is stack both engagement (aka proposal ring) ring + wedding ring together but if she confirm chop stamp don't mind, then go ahead with your plan but i strongly suggest you discuss after she say "yes":D

Usually proposal ring is not suitable for daily wear due to the big solitaire and wedding band is used for the exchanging of band during rom and wedding band's design are more suited for daily wear with minimal risk.

I've heard before girls who only want wedding band and not proposal ring for the sake of saving cost but not the other way round.

And the symbol of a proposal ring doesn't mean married, usually just engaged (if you care about what other guys looking at her finger thinking of lol)

Octagon vs Solasfera

Hi,

Have recently made a deposit for a solasfera with JP. Some of my friends have commented that the octagon is more value for money though. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I guess its up to individual preferences. For me, I do not like wedding band designs. Therefore, my proposal ring = wedding ring (Btw, I am a lady).

Noob question. The Solasfera has 91 facets and 10 Hearts and Arrows. No other round diamond is anywhere near these numbers???

Hi all, i’m new to the forum and want to seek some opinion. I was quoted $4.6k for a heart shape 0.8ct, G, VVS1 diamond. Do you all think it is worth it?

Many thanks in advance!
